Dec. 26th, 2014 12:36 amWhoops, I swear my godson is going to have a complex. I had mentioned when we went to the museum over Thanksgiving and had dinner at Applebee's (or was it Friday's? One of those places) and was asking
7500centfish,
isabel79, and
durlxnemesis about my godson's mothers newest kids with a different father than he. So, I was all, "What's the name of R's oldest again?" wondering which of her daughter is older. And my godson is all "I'm the oldest!" and it took like 5 minutes to get my mistake.
So anyways, after midnight mass (well, technically 11pm), where my godson and his step cousin snuck off in the middle of church to go across the street to buy cheetos (and he licked his hands and shook people's hands with those hands), we did the usual gift giving. And I guess he was going to go over to his mom's after, along with his cousin and step cousin. Only his aunt and her bf (not the mother of said cousins) took the cousin and step cousin to his mom's house without him. So he asked my aunt, "where's my cousin?" and she was all, "A took them to R's!" and he was all, "I was supposed to go!" and my aunt was all, "why would you want to go?" forgetting its his mom, not theirs!
Anyways, went to Jersey for XMas as usual. Pretty uneventful, other than trying to figure out how to hook up the karaoke machine to the TV. It took a while, but after googling around on my phone, I got it working.
TV commentary:
Doctor Who- Well, that was kinda bittersweet if you think about it. I mean, first off, I guess they were all technically strangers except for the Doctor and Clara. So they didn't even know the guy who died, and it implied they wouldn't remember anyways. Still, some random guy died somewhere, if he had any loved ones, they'd be all, "WTF?!" And wait, shouldn't they try to find him since that's a living dream crab somewhere that could find another victim? Or was the implication that it too died whenever the "psychic gestalt" formed by them all "woke up"? Though Clara's didn't die, the Doc still had to go back and save her because she still didn't want to wake up! So yeah, there's prolly a dangerous dream crab roaming around out there! Possibly preying on that guy's next of kin!
But yeah, I was saying bittersweet, because they shared this intense experience, and Shona was hoping that they'd become friends. But its implied they won't even remember this since it was while they were in a dream state! And that poor lady was wheelchair ridden, she got a taste of walking again and she's back to being stuck in a chair. And Shona's life doesn't look so great, prolly why she was so desperate to make new friends.
Which is interesting, I heard that maybe this was going to be Clara's swan song, that the part where she was old would be for real, not the Doctor's dream, and that they were setting up Shona to be a new companion. I mean, like when we see her in the real world, she has a list telling her to forgive some guy, but there's not enough context given that we should know or care! Like if it was a universal situation they set up, like he's a layabout who means well or something, maybe it would make sense. But it seemed like they were setting up a mysterious situation there that would be explored later.
But yeah, Clara being old and living a life alone because no men measured up to Danny or the Doctor and because the Doctor never came back because they were both keeping their sad news from each other because they thought the other was happy would be an interesting enough way to write her off. But then it was announced Jenna Coleman is still going to be the companion, and it almost seemed like Santa being all, "But what if you came back to her while she was still young" was an afterthought that they wrote in to keep her on the show.
But the whole Inception meets Alien meets the Thing story going on was kinda neat. And Nick Frost as Santa, with Finn from Misfits and some other guy who is prolly famous in England but I didn't recognize were pretty amusing.
