TV commentary:

The Librarians- I enjoyed this. Its like the Leverage crew working for the Warehouse and being hunted by the Dyad group. Also, Flynn has become very Doctor Who-y between the series and movie. Which, when Bob Newhart was all, "He's been Librarian for 10 years", I was skeptical, but yup, the first movie was back in 2004. And the third was in 2008, so its kinda random that they decided to make this into a series 6 years later.

But yeah, basically the premise is the Serpent Brotherhood, led by Matt Frewer is trying to bring magic to the world. So, they've been eliminating anyone else besides the current Librarian who could figure it out, which were the other Librarian candidates on the list right after Flynn. All of those are dead, except for 3, who just didn't bother going to the interview in the first movie. Jake, played by Christian Kane, who is basically Eliot, except with slightly less fighting skills (he's pretty good at "barroom brawling"), because he's an art historian/oil rig guy. There's Cassandra, played by the always cute Lindy Booth, some sort of uber human computer with synesthesia from a tumor in her brain. And finally, there's Ezekiel Jones, who's basically Asian Hardison.

As Dr Leekie's henchwoman, Lamia, puts it one hid from their gift (Jake), one who abused their gift (Zeke), and one who's gift is killing her. Also, Rebecca Romijin is Eve, a counterterrorist soldier whom Flynn randomly meets on a mission, but then the Library calls to be his new Guardian, which hasn't had in years (I forget, did they say what happened to his original Guardian, Penelope from Lost? I'm sure they must've covered it in the second movie).

In any case, the Brotherhood invades the library, so Jane Curtin and Bob Newhart sever the pocket dimension its in from the rest of the world. As such, the team is forced to go to Portland, where an annex exists run by Jenkins, played by John Larroquette. He's more of a researcher type, preferring to stay in and study let the Librarian being the one out there taking all the risks.

So how did the Brotherhood invade? Because the Brotherhood promised to fix Cassandra's tumor. She sees the error of her ways though, and in the end they thwart the Brotherhood's plan. But not before the Brotherhood returns Excalibur to the Sword in the Stone to jumpstart magic again.

Apparently, there's almost no magic anymore because artifacts were made that absorbed some of the natural magic, and as technology grew, people built cities on all the natural leylines until magic became nothing more then a faded memory. Heh, the Library was a store for all these artifacts (much like a certain Warehouse) and the Brotherhood wanted to steal Excalibur from it so they could put it back and the stone and return Excalibur's magic into the world.

But I digress. So they do manage to pull Excalibur out, but its dying because its been drained. Its amusing how the show could make you feel sad about an inanimate object. Flynn's also dying, having been stabbed by Excalibur earlier in the ep. He tries to give the sword to Cassandra, to have her use the dying embers of magic to cure her tumor, but she instead uses it on Flynn to heal his wound.

In the end, when Flynn realizes he is in charge now that Judson and Charlene are gone, he makes changes. First, he makes the others Librarians in training, since theoretically, if something happens to him, one of them will be the new Librarian. As he tells Jenkins, its ridiculous that they wait until the old Librarian dies before getting a new one, and throwing them into this world and expecting them not to drown. Its not wonder they usually have such low life expectancies. Additionally, this would allow them to handle the smaller issues, while he handles the major ones, and give him time to get the Library back.

Also, despite the growing attraction between he and Eve, as much as he would want her to be his Guardian and be alongside him on his adventures, he leaves her in charge of the newbies.

All in all, it seems a fun show, something to fill the void left by the cancellations of Warehouse 13, Eureka, and Leverage.
