Legend of Korra- Interesting reveal about the whole conflict. So Kuvira came to power because Suyin refused the job to pacify the Earth kingdom. I mean, I get her concern, she didn't want to go around imposing her will and being viewed as a conqueror. But the fact of the matter was, the Earth Kingdom was in pretty bad shape and needed someone to fix it. Like she's all fine in her little city with the metal domes to keep out threats, but what about the rest of the nation? She was going to leave them to their own whims because she didn't want to demonstrate even an inkling of imposition?!
I mean, the fact that she didn't want to be a conqueror meant she was perfect for the job. Did she think the rest of the world would be all, "Owel, guess we'll just let the Earth Kingdom go to shit!"? Someone was going to fulfill that role, so if she understood the danger of being in such a position, shouldn't she have taken it to make sure the job was done right?
But its cool both sides are flawed. Kuvira's heart was in the right place (at least initially), but she let herself get corrupted, is going to far. Suyin's no saint either though. Like she's wanting to stand by her principles, and acquiescing to Kuvira might seem like she's approving of what Kuvira's been doing. So she's not willing to compromise or negotiate. But what's interesting is that when Korra shows up, Suyin's all, "Just go into the avatar state and destroy them all!" Telling Korra to just destroy anyone who disagrees with her, how is that any different than from what Kuvira's doing.
Then with Korra wanting to try talking it out some more, and Kuvira all, "I will hold my troops back until you talk to Suyin", we don't know if Kuvira's lying and was just going to double cross them, because Suyin does it first. When Korra goes to talk to Suyin, she finds out Suyin had already snuck into Kuvira's camp with the twins to "end this once and for all". Suyin's not helping her cause any if she's going to just try and assassinate someone who a lot of people view as a hero.
Owel, Varrick and Bolin try to escape, because they realize they don't agree with Kuvira's agenda, particularly when she demands Varrick continue to work on the spirit vine energy source thing when he knows it could be made into a destructive weapon. He's actually developed a conscience. In any case, Zhu Li shows she's pretty bad-ass, but Varrick keeps bumbling up, and when Varrick blames her for their capture even though she kicked so much ass, she's had enough and pledges her loyalty to Kuvira.
It has to be a trick though. Varrick treats her like shit, sure, and I would be pissed too if I got blamed for being captured, even though I did my best, better than everyone else (I mean, Mako kicked ass with his earth and lava bending, but Zhu Li deserves props since she's only human). But Varrick has been abusing her for years. It seems too convenient that she finally decides she's had enough at such a key moment. I bet she's faking so they can eventually escape.
Oh, and Asami makes up with her dad. Or at the very least, agrees to play some pai sho with him from now on. I mean, its cool that she's getting to reconnect with her dad and work past his whole being a traitor thing, but it kinda took away from the tension of what was going on in Zaofu.
