Flash- So, I caught the upcoming Flash pilot. First things first, Danielle Panabaker is still wicked mad cute, so I'm glad she'll be on my TV screen next fall. The girl who plays Iris is pretty cute as well, so there's no shortage of hotties on this show. In any case, I liked it, definitely will be watching it come fall.
I guess the show is presented in such a way that you don't have to have seen Arrow (though if a person did just start this show without watching Arrow, wouldn't they find it odd that Barry just happens to randomly knows a costumed vigilante?), but it was still slightly confusing when they started "14 years ago" to show his mom being killed Reverse Flash, and then they flashforward to "today". But if you watch Arrow, "today" is not today, since the storm that put Barry in a coma happened months ago in that universe.
Actually, I guess the other weird thing by having Caitlin and Carlos show up in Arrow a few months ago to promote the show is on Arrow, they kinda involved the Mirakuru stuff into things. Like they cooked up an antidote to the Mirakuru, but didn't they also study it and I thought they worked up something to help Barry? So at that point, I would think in trying to figure out what makes him tick, they'd have to take that into account, and he wasn't just affected by the particle accelerator explosion, but some weird ancient drug too. But maybe I was mistaken and they didn't do anything with the Mirakuru in regards to him.
But ha, this ep had one of the more hilarious let downs (I loathe to use the word friendzoning because its a bullshit concept, its like yeah, it sucks if a girl you like doesn't like you back, but she is not obligated to just because you're nice to her) I've seen. Because Iris brings up how they're grew up together and they're so close and you think she'll be all, "You're like a brother to me!" but instead she's all, "Oh, we are like brother and sister, but we're not!" so he's like hopeful. But then she goes, "Yeah, you don't have to feel weird about asking me for advice about girls!" HA!
Which again, brings up the whole connection to Arrow but trying not to be so viewers won't have to have watched Arrow to watch this show weirdness. On Arrow, they brought up the fact that Felicity spent so much time there at Barry's bedside that Ollie was getting all jealous (whatever, you can't tell the Olicity shipper in me otherwise). So given the last thing Barry and Iris talked about before he went into a coma was how she hopes he finds a girl who will love him for the great guy he is, and then all of a sudden, there's this totes cute nerd girl hanging around as much as she is. Like wouldn't she be wondering who that girl is and/or asking Barry if he's going to tap that? Well, not in such a vulgar way, but you know what I mean. Or heh, maybe that is Iris secretly having feelings for Barry and keeping a secret that there was this other girl watching over him so she won't lose him to her.
Of course, they'll prolly end up doing a love triangle with Barry, Iris, and Caitlin. Which will be interesting since Caitlin Snow is Killer Frost's real name in the current DC universe. So if she does become a villain, that will complicate things. Other names- Carlos is Vibe, pretty boy cop that Iris is dating is Reverse Flash (which, interesting, they had that whole thing with Barry's mom happen in the beginning), but interestingly enough, Ed from Ed plays Harrison Wells, who doesn't have a DC counterpart, at least in name.
I mean, he is head of STAR labs, and he's faking being crippled and has a newspaper form the future with a headline about Flash disappearing, but I don't know if that points to someone story wise then. But heh, I guess the particle accelerator exploding is Flash's meteor shower, so freaks of the week will have gotten their powers from it? Of course, when Flash was talking about people mysteriously disappearing and blaming it on the metahumans, I'm actually curious how many were actually captured by Dr Wells and experimented on? I bet a twist like that is coming.
I'm also glad Iris' father found out Barry's secret really quick, that would been annoying if Barry had to hide things from him and have to take shit all the time about living in a fantasy world. But of course, Joe tells him he has to keep it a secret from Iris to "keep her safe". Not sure how she's kept safe by not knowing, and its not like at the point they knew he was going to do the costumed hero thing and thus people who know his identity are in danger. But whatever, its a trope.
Also, heh, not to knock Dawson's dad or anything, but would he have gotten this role if he didn't happen to be the Flash in the old 90s series?
