Dec. 14th, 2013 03:28 pmSaw the new Hobbit movie with the usual suspects. I enjoyed it a lot more than the first. I did not realize Stephen Fry was in this. Nor did I know that Kili was played by the British Being Human vampire guy, or that Azog was Slade from Arrow. Or that Bard the Bowman was gonna be played by the bad guy from the Fast and the Furious 6. I also found it interesting Lake Town has a few black people. Nothing wrong with that, its nice to see non-white humans in these movies who aren't evil foreigners working for Sauron for a change. But where are my Asian people?
Evangeline Lilly is totally hott as Tauriel the elf. Yeah, she's not a character from the books, but hey, its nice to have some females in this trilogy. So, not only is she made up for this movie, they made up this whole Kili-Tauriel-Legolas love triangle thing. Which is amusing, because I rememeber an interview where she was all, "Don't put me in a love triangle!" and they end up putting her in a love triangle! But yeah, I was confused if she actually does like Legolas, but since Thranduil was all, "Sorry, but you're lower class trash and will never get with my son!" she was all, fine, I'll just get with this very un-dwarf looking dwarf guy. Or if she was just being polite and thinks he's a sweet kid, but doesn't actually think of him in that way.
Also, I realize they've made some changes/taken liberties in the movies since the book isn't actually that long. Granted, I never actually read the hobbit, but this whole thing with Bard's ancestor having shot a scale off Smaug doesn't sound familiar at all. I thought Smaug's underside was armored because he slept on the treasure and it had formed into a kinda protective sheath, and it was just a coincidence there was a chink in it that Bilbo was able to find and tell Bard? Not that it was an old wound from a time long ago.
