TV commentary:

Once Upon a Time- Ah, we finally learn the identity of Dr Whale. He's Doctor Frankenstein. How does that work? Turns out he's not from FTL, which is why almost no one recognizes him. Instead, he's from another land that Jefferson could reach with his hat. Anyways, in FTL past, Regina's apprenticeship with Rumple wasn't going too well. She was too soft. (And seriously, how amazing is Lana Parrilla in this role? She is so deliciously evil as the Queen, but she also does innocent and vulnerable so well, playing pre-corrupted Regina.) He asks her why she wants to learn magic, and its to bring back Daniel. Rumple says even magic can't bring back the dead and tells her he can no longer teach her. Jefferson just happens to come by with something he retrieved for Rumple.

Hearing Regina's plight, he's all, "I know someone who can help!" So he brings over Doc Frankenstein, who has interest in FTL because he believes the enchanted hearts (as we learn in the beginning the heart ripping process infuses the heart with strong magic, hence the glow) can withstand his procedure to reanimate the dead. So, she gives him a heart from her mother's vault. But alas, it fails. So poor Regina is sad. But only for a second. With all hope for restoring Daniel to life lost, she finally does the heart rip trick on Rumple's new apprentice, and kills her, ready to fully learn all Rumple has to teach.

But! We find out that it was all a ruse. The Doctor was working with Rumple all along to corrupt Regina and pulled a switcheroo with the heart. As payment for helping pull Regina to the dark side, he gets the heart, with which he uses to reanimate his dead brother. As we learn in Storybrooke, apparently that didn't turn out too well.

Anyways, upon hearing from David that the other lands still exist, he demands Regina take him back to his home. She claims she can't, and even if she could, she made a promise that she wouldn't use magic, for Henry's sake. She's even seeing Jiminy for counseling about it. So, he breaks into her vault and re-animates Daniel (not sure why, either to fuck with her or entice her to take him home), who rips off his arm and goes to the stables because of lingering memories. Unfortunately, David has been making Henry work at the stables in order to teach him horseback riding- caring for the horse will form trust.

So, Daniel shows up scaring the horses and choking Henry. Luckily, Regina and David show up in time. They send Henry away, and David demands Regina take care of Daniel. She tries to talk to him, but he's in so much pain. He tells her if she really loves him, then she should love again. So, she dusts him, then goes to Jiminy to talk because she had to use magic.

Dr Whale meanwhile shows up at Rumple's to get his arm re-attached. Which he does, for the price of saying magic is more powerful than science, as they had a bet going.

In FTL present, the girls return to the camp, only to find the refugees slaughtered. Except for one surivivor! Hook. Luckily, Emma and her mom are no fools, and they suss out quickly he's a mole. After threatening to leave him for Ogre bait, he fesses up. He tells them about Cora having the ashes, but she needs a compass to navigate to Storybooke. He offers to make a deal, he'll help them instead as long as they take him to Storybrooke so he can get revenge on Rumple.

So, they free him, but they still don't fully trust him. They're sure he's leading them into a trap, but the best they can do is just keep their eyes out, hoping that know there's a trap coming is enough to get out of it. He leads them to a magical beanstalk with a giant at the top. We'll have to see next week how that turns out.
