So its First Listen Friday, so the Official Music from Glee site has the songs up to hear. Its 11 songs, which is a lot, I'm actually curious if all the songs are going to be in the actual ep, or if they had to drop some for time.
Commentary:
Bad- sounds like its New Directions vs Warblers, with Artie, Blaine, Santana, and Sebastian singing the lead vocals.
Ben- pretty much a straight up cover of the song, as performed by Kurt, Rachel, and Finn.
Black or White- again, a faithful cover, performed by Santana, Artie, Kurt, Rachel and Mercedes.
Human Nature- An acoustic guitar version, performed as a duet by Sam and Mercedes. Not as poignant as the original, but still nice.
I Just Can't Stop Loving You- Finchel duet.
I Want You Back- A Warblers version, with Sebastian on lead. Typical warbler sound, but I think Victorious did it better last year. But that might be because I like putting ensembles to good use- Tori was okay on lead, but I liked their use of Jade, Andre, and Cat especially.
Never Can Say Goodbye- a nice airy version done by Quinn.
Scream- as performed by Artie and Mike. They do make a good pair for these MJ songs, I'm sure the performance will look good with Mike's dance moves, and he actually gets to sing a bunch in this. His singing has definitely improved since second season.
Smooth Criminal- This is basically the 2Cellos version, only with Sebastian and Santana singing over it. I thought it was okay, until you get to the end, when it starts getting good. For most of it, Santana's voice doesn't sound like her, but then at the end, she does some really nice work there.
Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'- I already commented on this, not much difference between the show one and the full length version. Like I said, it sounds fine, not as good as the original, but I enjoyed the performance.
