HIMYM- Having seen last night's ep a few more times, I realize what people were pissed at Robin about. I guess I totally forgot there was the actual expectation that the would get back together (not by the audience, by Robin and Barney). I figured they were telling Kevin and Nora because it was the right thing to do, and then figure out what to do from there. But watching it again, Barney outright says they need to break up with their SOs, and then meet at Mclaren's to get back together. I suppose it was Barney's epiphany when Nora's dad was talking about love that threw me off, because it seemed like that was the moment he realized he wanted to be with Robin. I mean, it kinda was, because both Robin and Barney were waffling with their feelings all night. (Although that's not actually true, Robin was, Barney was just trying to say whatever he thought Robin wanted to hear) But the plan was ultimately to break things off and get back together at the end of the night. Its just Barney followed through, and Robin didn't.
Hart of Dixie- Looks like HIMYM wasn't the only depressingly sad show on last night. Man, talk about a mess of romantic entanglements. But hey, they actually had Zoe and George interact and remind us that they're a potential coupling. Honestly, there's so many parallels between Zoe and George and Lemon and George and Lemon and Levon and Zoe and Wade.
I do believe Lemon and George are fond of each other, but deep down, they're sticking with each other because its safe, and familiar and expected. But George is definitely attracted to Zoe, though I think Zoe has fallen for him more. Lemon and Levon are hugely attracted to one another. But George is the one she wants to want, he's the perfect southern gentlemen, with a good job, and is incredibly nice and loyal and devoted to those he cares about. At the same time, he's had the taste of the big city, and is more worldly and open minded than a lot of the other guys in town, which is why Zoe is so attracted to him as well. Its also amusing because those are the traits Lemon least likes about George, but I think she likes Levon for those same reasons- that he isn't small-town and doesn't take guff from the established tradition-minded folk that Lemon sucks up to.
Just as George is the one Lemon wants to want, he's also the one Zoe wants to want. But honestly, if pressed right now, I'm not sure if he would ever choose Zoe over Lemon. As I said, they just get each other and have so much in common. But if anything, George is loyal, he won't stray from Lemon. Until he finds out about her and Levon, but even then, if he did seek out Zoe, it would be for the wrong reasons. I think he's just too tied to Lemon to ever have it work.
And then there's Wade. He and Zoe have ridiculous chemistry. And Zoe is certainly attracted to him, he's just not the kind of guy she wants to like. And Tanzie's line to Wade at the end is amusing, because she tells him to move on from Zoe, because he's never going to be the one she picks. And its no knock on him, because she follows up with, that its her loss. But I think its another parallel, because I don't think Zoe would be the one George picks.
Unfortunately for him, Zoe realizes she's attracted to a man she can't have, George, but at the same time, while Wade is there and totally available, she chooses option C, veterinarian guy. Ouch. He looked almost as sad as Barney on last night's HIMYM
As I said, I'm kinda curious who the show is trying to set up as the "main coupling". I mean, I reveal my biases above, but as I said before, the pilot seemed like it was pushing George/Zoe and this episode treats them as if they're soulmates- two people from different worlds, who've had a taste of the other world and are learning how to mesh the two together. But there's obviously something huge going on between Zoe and Wade, and it seems to me romances set up X liking Y because they're their ideal, perfect for them. Meanwhile, there's Z on the sidelines, who drives X crazy, but despite that they become really good friends, and in the end, X realizes Z was right there all along and the best choice for them. And on this show, X is Zoe, Y is George, and Z is Wade. I'm not proclaiming she should be with Wade, just that traditional Hollywood formulas point to Wade being her lobster (Friends ref!), even though the pilot seemed to set up George as the one. I guess we'll see as the season goes on.
