HIMYM- Damn, just damn. I'm glad the show is delving back into the BrOTP, but did they have to do it so heart-wrenchingly? So, the kiss last week led to sex, which leads to guilt. Robin and Barney resolve to come clean with Kevin and Nora. Of course, this being a sitcom, things happen which make it incredibly inconvenient for them to confess. In the case of Kevin, he gets a jalapeno-vodka splashed in his face, temporarily blinding him and causing him to hit his head and requiring an emergency room visit to make sure he doesn't have a concussion. With Nora, its her parents showing up early just as Barney is about to confess.
But that proves to increase Barney's resolve to tell Nora he cheated on her. Because Nora's dad talks of love, which causes Barney to realize its Robin he really wants. So, he confesses to Nora, and when she asks if he's gonna say it meant nothing, he honestly says he can't, and leaves.
However, Kevin chooses this time to tell Robin he loves her. And just when Robin is about to confess, he sees she's about to tell him something bad, so he tells her to not just tell him. He forgives her, he doesn't need to know what happened.
So at the end of the night, when Barney is waiting excitedly for Robin to come back so they can be together, he's totally crushed when he sees her come in with Kevin, and she signals to him she's sticking with Kevin. So he leaves, for obvious reasons. As does a high Ted, who secretly witnesses Barney cleaning up the romantic setup he had in Robin's room to celebrate them getting back together. Sad ending, and great job by NPH portraying the utter devastation Barney was experiencing. I mean, the way his face lights up when Robin enters the bar, then he sees her with Kevin, and then he searches her face for an answer, wherein she tells him no with a quick shake of her head. And wow, he was just crushed!
Of course, looking at various forums a lot of people are pissed at Kevin and Robin. Hey, I like the Barney/Robin ship too, but I don't think either of them did something to get really pissed at. Its like, "Kevin told Robin he loved her and gave her a pass on whatever bad thing she was going to tell him! Oh no, that bastard!" As for Robin choosing Kevin, I can see why she did. The first time Barney and Robin got together, it didn't work out, and even though Barney suggested maybe them sleeping together wasn't the story of how they cheated on their current SOs, but how they found each other again, he didn't give as compelling a reason to Robin as Kevin did as to why he loves her!
I mean, Kevin complemented her and told her all these things he likes about her. Barney said he likes her because she's almost as messed up as he is. Not exactly a ringing endorsement there. Obviously, he had better reasons, things he couldn't really voice until after the convo with Nora's dad gave him that epiphany, but Robin never got a chance to hear them.
I'm eggcited to see where this goes!
