So as you get ready to read this post, you're prolly wondering, "Is he gonna talk about movies, food, or hot chicks?" It is the first! Anyways, sometimes in the slow periods of the work day, you're forced to surf and drink caffienated beverages! I had heard about that new upcoming film "Hero" a couple of days ago when I was trying to find films, if any, that had Jet Li and Donnie Yen on IMDB. Obviously, there's Once Upon a Time in China 2. But then I also saw "Hero" listed. And not only does it have the two of them, it has Zhang Ziyi. The other listed cast is Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung of John Woo's "Hard Boiled" and "Bullet in the Head". So its an impressive cast. But what is it about, Geebs?! Leung, Cheung, and Yen play assassins trying to prevent Ying Zheng from conquering all of China (Its an oft-told Chinese story). Jet Li plays the emperor's bodyguard and Zhang Ziyi is Leung's maid who is in love with him. But unlike "The Emperor and the Assassin" which tried to go for accuracy, "Hero" is entirely fictitious. So who is the "hero"? Supposedly, one can make an argument for any of the main characters being the hero the way the story goes. Interestingly bit of trivia, in the original story, the head assassin's name is Jing Ke. In Highlander IV, Donnie Yen played the "actual" Jing Ke, who was an immortal in the Highlander universe. Though his character's name isn't Jing Ke in "Hero", he is still one of the assassins. Anyways, this is a film I'm looking forward to seeing. And it comes out here in limited release in December!
