removing cousins
Jul. 25th, 2002 01:10 pmSo, if you share a set of great grandparents, but are not first cousins or siblings, you are second cousins! "Removed" denotes when they share a set of ancestors but are not the same number of generations in descent from those ancestors. So if your cousin has children, their children would be your first cousins once removed. So my godson, who I refer to as a nephew since I think of his mother as a sister, is actually my first cousin, once removed. And I knew second cousin meant your parent's cousin's children. Like my cousins in Chicago, Cali, Chattanooga, and Norfolk are my second cousins, because their parents are the cousins of my parents. It all makes cents now! They cleared it up here.
Ingenous!
