Criminal Minds- So last night's ep was Paget Brewster's last ep. Since Criminal Minds is not a show I catch regularly, I did not Rachel Nichols was on this show. And its confusing too. Because I figured they were getting rid of Paget Brewster and AJ Cook to free up some money. And I thought it was a weird choice, because why would you get rid of the two main chicks? I mean, that leaves Garcia, but I noticed in last week's Criminal Minds spin-off show, she's pulling double duty there, so if they wanted to, they could've diminished her role on Criminal Minds (not gotten rid of her though, because she plays a vital role) and just have her be Tech Girl on both. But then I come to find out Rachel Nichols is a regular now. So why did they have to get rid of JJ and Prentiss then?
Rachel Nichols isn't that much younger than AJ Cook, so its not like its an age thing. Plus, they're both attractive blonds, I wouldn't say one was way more hot than the other- watching last night's ep, I didn't even realize Rachel Nichols was on this show at first because when they were on the plane, I thought she was JJ! But then they cut to JJ and I was all, "Wait, who the hell is this other chick?!" And hey, Rachel Nichols isn't Angelina Jolie or Julia Roberts, but she's still been in some pretty big movies, like "G.I.Joe" (as crappy as that movie was, it was still a big deal movie) So one would think she'd be more expensive than Paget Brewster or AJ Cook (though maybe not combined?)
Now, I'm not knocking Rachel Nichols, I don't have a problem with her being on the show, I just find it weird that it seemed like they were trying to cut down the size of the cast, but ended up adding another person. Then again, I suppose Paget Brewster was a replacement for Lola Glaudini back in season 2. But like I said, at least in that case it was straightforward, I don't know what happened behind the scenes, but it seemed obvious it was the intention was to replace the latter. Here, it seemed like they were just trying to make the cast smaller (which I guess they did, by one person) but then a year after it was announced they were gonna be cut, they bring in some other girl. Seems kinda hincky to me. But I digress.
Wait, so Prentiss is ex-CIA?! Or rather, someone who did work for the CIA?! Did they pull that out of their ass, or were there hints to that the last few seasons?
Also, English guy was all, I'll work with you to Hotch, but we can't be arresting this guy, we have to kill him, or else it will start all over again. So when they figured out where Prentiss was, when they had that team killing the bad guy's men, I figured it was some spec-ops strike team doing this, and the Feebs were just ignoring what was happening. But Morgan was along side them, killing peeps! What the?! Though I guess technically Prentiss was a hostage, and that team could've been HRT, and they usually use lethal force when busting in because if they just shoot to wound, they don't know if the guy will do something to kill hostages if he's still alive.
It was a little silly though that she has the drop on the bad guy, and even tells him she was stalling him long enough for her team to get there and rescue her, but when the team is actually charging in, she's surprised and distracted, allowing the guy to turn the tables on her!
But owel, so the team thinks Prentiss is dead. Except for JJ, and possibly Hotch? And now she's off living under an assumed identity, since that guy got away in the end. I guess that does leave it open for her to come back if they want.

They didn't outright say anything about Doyle getting away in the ep, which was ridiculous. And Morgan being part of the SWAT? yeah, dumb, but they do that all the time in PPDs.
random note: Paget Brewster does actually have the same nail-biting thing that Emily Prentiss does. ;)
CBS is supposedly talking about bringing AJ back to the show.

Date: 2011-03-17 04:39 pm (UTC)I guess the main reason I found the Morgan thing weird was, yeah they have the cast members join the raids all the time in police procedurals, but that's usually to capture a criminal, or at the very least, they intend to try and take the guy alive. This ep, the intent seemed to just kill that Irish guy and his men.
Like the last ep of this season's I saw before this one was the one with Adrianne Palicki where she and her husband were doing the Natural Born Killers thing. The way that ended, hey, the guy came at them, they had no choice but to gun him down. But this was a situation where they were the "aggressors", so they knew they were going in to kill. I mean, they had to, that's standard FBI HRT procedure, because if they didn't come in hard and fast, Emily could get killed (heh, and as far as they know, she did!), but Morgan's not HRT. I guess I wouldn't have been as weirded out if it was the rest of the SWAT-type guys doing most of the shooting, and he was just there as backup since he knew Emily, but he was one of the main guys killing people.
