Dexter- So we finally see the aftermath of last season's finale, and sure enough, the initial consensus was that she was a Trinity (are they still calling him Trinity when they know he actually kills people in 4s?) victim. Though she doesn't fit his victim profile so they do think that's weird. Still, you never think too much when Dexter kills one of these bad guys and how that means the case will generally go cold and unsolved. But given the victim is "one of their own" because Rita's Dexter's wife, it seems to me that since to them, they think Trinity has escaped and they'll never find him, that should be pretty upsetting and frustrating to them. Sure, Laguerta is leaving the case for the FBI, but when they don't come closer to finding Trinity, I'm sure that'll drive them to try and take over. Its just not something I see them dropping.
But heh, Deb must really hate the FBI now- first, her lover was dismissed by the FBI for having made waves trying to chase a serial killer they didn't think existed. And then when he gets close to proving his case, the killer's daughter murders him. And now, since its an FBI case, she prolly thinks because they're slow and incompetent, it got her sister in law killed! Strangely enough, Laguerta thinks she and Angel getting married might have something to do with Rita's death, b/c they called in Dexter for an "urgent matter", but it was just to be a witness for their wedding, and she's worried they called him away and that left Rita vulnerable. But I checked, and they got married the ep before the last one, and it seemed like a day or two ended up passing. But she was all, "we were only married 10 hours when this happened!" It doesn't seem like the timeline jives.
But I digress, so the gang would continue to look in to Rita's murder when no headway was made. Quinn's already trying to convince people they should look into Dexter, since the husband is usually the killer, and also because of what he heard from Masuka pointed him in the direction of the neighbor, so he also knows Rita had something going on with neighbor guy and Dex knew about it. I mean, we know its not Dexter, and I would think the forensics would point to it not being Dexter. Then again, he is a forensics specialist, so maybe they could say "oh, he used his expertise to fake it!" But given they know the guy has a pattern, and they know Dexter knows the guy has a pattern, I don't think "framing Trinity" would be a wise plan because the pattern doesn't fit and it would draw even more attention to her murder. Then again, I guess they could think he's smart enough to make a crime scene look like another killer, but dumb enough to frame someone who doesn't fit and would bring up questions?
I do think Dex should make up his mind, it seems like every season, he resolves to quit and run, and so he does the clean up process, but since he comes back, the cleaning up part leads to questions being raised. Like obviously he wouldn't rent that container under his own name, but the fact that he set it on fire would lead to an arson investigation, and that could cause problems. Particularly since he's under a lot of scrutiny due to Rita's death.
Glee- I really enjoyed this ep. I think the Britney performances were awesome for the most part. Although Rachel's rendition of "Baby One More Time" was in a different key, so it seemed kinda off. But I guess she made up for it with her version of Paramore's "Only Exception". It weird me out that the TWoP recapper was "some song he never heard of" about it. Its currently on the VH-1 top 20 countdown for the past few weeks! Is it that nobody under the age of 25 listens to current music anymore? Because I bet if I went to the usual suspects and asked them about Paramore, they'd be all "Who?!"
Oh, and one of my fav lines of the night was when Will was all "That's my jam!" when Christopher Cross' "Sailing" came on the radio. And I know they're trying to make Will look all dorky and out of touch for trying to push the Glee Club to do some Christopher Cross, but whatever, Christopher Cross is awesome!!
Not too much plot in this ep, unless you count Will trying to win back Emma, or Bieste feeling sorry for Finn and letting him back on the team and Rachel feeling threatened that she'll be cast aside so she acts insane and tries to make him choose. I'm not liking what they've done with Rachel this season, I dunno how to explain it. Usually, I'm fine with her crazy, and I can make a case for why one should side with her, but these past couple of eps, I can't, she's just coming off overly-bitchy and kinda psycho.
I mean, I get her insecurity, but outright giving Finn an ultimatum, quit or lose her forever?! At least she came to her senses at the end. Though, heh, that's the second time Finn chose football. Unlike Puck who chose Rach last year. Just saying. Still, even though I'm lukewarm towards Finchel, I did like that one scene in the end where Santana and Brit-Brit were talking Finn up, but then he sees Rachel standing there look all sad, so he bypasses the Cheerios to be with her.
But as I said, her version of BOMT was a little off, but it was a nice and accurate recreation of the original video. And they act like she's all of a sudden so sexy for dressing in the hot schoolgirl uniform from that video in "real life" at school, but she always wears those ridiculously short skirts! She's always dressed kinda hot, its not something new! Is it just because she's not wearing a goofy sweater and has her hair in pigtails?
Artie's version of Stronger was solid, though not sexy like the girls. Though I just realized the guys carrying his wheelchair across the field was a callback to the original Britney video, if you imagine his wheelchair as a car.
But yeah, Brit's "I'm a Slave 4 U" and the Brit/Santana "Me Against the Music" performances were HOTT. I liked the latter better, because 1) it didn't have creepy kids and 2) Brit and Santana had amazing chemistry and their voices went real well together.
Toxic was freakin' awesome, and the only one of the songs that was a re-interpretation rather than a straight cover.
Overall, the ep was about 60% Artie, Rachel, and Britana getting high at the Dentist's office and having a Britney Spears video fantasy sequence, which I'm fine with. People complained about the lack of plot, but I think the performances made up for it. Unless you don't like Britney Spears, in which case, you prolly hate this ep.
Oh, ha, we also find out Brittany's name! Its Brittany S Pearce. So she initially doesn't like Britney Spears because people would always make the inevitable comparison so Brittany's lived in Brit's shadow her whole life. To be fair though, as someone said in the forums, kids would've been making Britney Spears jokes at her even if her middle initial plus last name didn't sound like "spears" just by virtue of being named Brittany. Also- Emma's new dentist bf is played by John Stamos. Finally, this ep could've done without Sue catching Jacob jerking it in the library to his post-Britney Rachel interview.
