Secret Life- I suppose this really is my guilty pleasure show, as without it, what else could I be completely incredulous about and rant on here about my incredulity? I mean, is there a character on this show that isn't a big baby or a ridiculous a-hole? While I do think Adrian and Ben are being ridiculous, what the frick do their parents want? So Ben, distraught over the whole Amy-Ricky thing, is basically saying eff it and is just gonna marry Adrian. His dad is all, "Don't get married just to spite Amy and Ricky, look what happened last time!" Which is all fine and good. But its like he thinks his son is obsessed with Amy and needs to get over it and eventually marry Adrian. But he has to want to marry Adrian! WTF?! I mean, it sounds like "Ben and Adrian being married" is the end game both Leo and Ruben want. While part of Ben's reasoning seems to indeed be spite, it also seems like he thinks he has no future with Amy anymore, feels responsible for the kid in Adrian's belly, so why not get married?
Which again, seems like what their parents want! But now that he's jumping into it, his dad's all, wait until Amy comes back, feel things out, then revisit the whole marrying Adrian thing. But it sounds like his dad thinks there's no hope for him and Amy. In fact, it seems like he just wants Ben to forget about Amy forever! Its like he wants his son to magically develop feelings for Adrian. "Don't marry her unless you really love her and want to be married to her! Oh, btw, become in love with her!" He's as ridiculous and deluded as Adrian and Ben are with their fake engagement to make Ricky and Amy jealous. Which kinda annoys me, because the fact that they're consciously doing that just makes them bratty little bitches. I think they woulda had more of a leg to stand on if they were all, "You know, we messed up, and we're never gonna be with our first choices, but you're a fine second choice, and our child would do well with a stable family, let's see where this goes!" because at least then, even though they're making a crazy decision, they're not being insane a-holes who are trying to use marriage as a bluff to trick the people they love into getting back with them.
And really, why do they keep calling Ricky and Ben best friends? "He's getting married to spite his ex-girlfriend and his best friend!" They're barely friends! They can't stand each other! Like what does he consider Henry and Alice, Ben's only friends for the longest time!? Where the hell is his dad getting that his son is best friends with Ricky?!
And what the hell, I thought they were trying to make Ricky a better person. But he finds out Amy went clubbing, which makes him think she's being a huge slut and effin the first guy she sees, so he goes out and effs some random! What a prick! I mean, it seems like he's mad that people think Amy should pick Ben because "he's the nicer, more responsible guy" (even though he is just a rich little moron baby). But as soon as Ricky is tested, he immediately fails! If he wants people to think he can be a loyal and monogamous boyfriend, maybe he shouldn't jump into bed everytime he thinks some girl wronged him!
Which is another thing I find hilarious about this show. That every insane paranoid thing a character thinks is exactly true! Like when Ricky does end up trolling for a quick lay, Adrian sees him and is all "I know you, you're going out to bang some girl, you haven't changed!" and you'd think she's just being insanely paranoid, but she's right! Like when Ricky texts the pic of John to Amy at the end, and her schoolmates correctly ascertain that, "Oh, he's just trying to guilt you, he was out all night himself but is just making it look like he's stuck home with the kid!" and that's exactly what was happening! I guess its kinda amusing that you'd think they'd make at least one side of the Ben-Amy-Ricky-Adrian square sane or not an a-hole. But apparently not!
Ha, and what, they're trying to be all clever at the end by making everyone forget Amy's b-day? Its like hey, everyone forgot Amy's b-day! Just like in that movie her mother starred in, 16 Candles. At least Ricky has the decency to at least look like he realized what a huge and enormous tool he was!
