Had pre-Lost dinner at Ipp's with the usual suspects. [livejournal.com profile] propace tried the Aglio-e-olio sauce (Olive oil, garlic, capicolla ham & crushed red pepper) on his pasta. That did catch my eye on the menu, but I wasn't feeling adventurous enough to try it.

TV Commentary:

Lost- Last ep before the 2 and a half hour season finale this Sunday! So things are coming to a head in the sideways finale.

At the Shephards, Jack and son and Claire share a nice moment of family bonded, only to be interrupted by Oceanic (only its not really Oceanic, its Desmond faking an American accent!) calling to say they found his dad's coffin, and he can pick it up later that night. And what else is happening that night? A big concert that it seems everyone will end up being at!

Jack's son mentioned it at the breakfast table, and his mom is gonna be there to, so we might finally find out who she is. You know, since I'm sure they have to bring Juliet back for the finale, and we haven't seen her yet, and it would just be amusing to keep the Jack-Kate-Sawyer-Juliet square going on even in the sideways, I'm now thinking Juliet is the mother.

Anyhoo, the big concert is at Dr Chang's museum, so Miles and Charlotte are going to be there. Miles invites Sawyer, but I think Sawyer turns him down. But he'll end up there, I'm sure, given how things in the sideways play out this ep.

See, we see when Des made the call, he was once again at the high school, and heh, it looked like he was totally trying to run over Locke again. Ben spots him, and starts yelling for someone to call the cops, and even though there are people no more than 50 feet away, no one stops Desmond from getting out of the car and beating the crap out of Ben. He does this on purpose, as it gives Ben a flash of the original reality, when Des was kicking the stuffing out of him at the docks for taking a shot at him and Penny. He informs Ben he's not trying to kill Ben, but to let go.

Then, he drives off, and turns himself in to James. He's put in holding, with, who else? Sayid and Kate. They get carted off to be moved to a proper jail, and during the ride there Des is all, if I help you guys escape, will you promise to help me with something. They're all, sure, whatever pal. Then the van stops at the docks and Ana-Lucia(!) lets them out. She's being paid by Hurley to lose them. Once she gets her payoff, she takes her leave, and Des send Sayid off with Hurley, while he says Kate is coming with him. To where? To crash that party! He hands Kate a hot skimpy dress, because if you're going to rope Kate into helping you, why wouldn't you dress her in something skimpy?

Anyways, back at the school nurse's office, Ben tells Locke about seeing Des at the school again, and Locke is about to call the cops. Ben tells him not to, as the guy claims he wasn't trying to kill Locke, but trying to convince him to "let go". Since this is what Jack told him a few days earlier, it freaks him out and he goes to visit Jack. He tells Jack the story, and about how he bumped into Jack at the airport, and then of all the people who could try to fix him up, it ends up being Jack, and how Jack is hung up on fixing him. He thinks its some kinda sign that they're meant to do something.

Getting back to Ben, on his way home, he bumps into Alex, who's all "Who beat you up?" and insists he go to her house for dinner since Rousseau just showed up to pick her up. So he does, and Danielle raves about how much Alex cares for him and how he's the father she never had. Ben is touched. And I'm not sure, but she may have been flirting with Ben as well, maybe wanting to date him so he can be Alex's father officially?

On the island, the Losties go to get Desmond out of the well. But they're sidetracked when young ghost Jacob takes his ashes back from Hurley. Hurley chases him and finds grown up Jacob sitting by a campfire. He tells him that he can appear here for as long as that fire is going, as it contains his ashes, but once it burns out, he's gone for good. He tells Hurley to get the others. They show up at the camp, and he tells them he didn't pick them out to ruin their lives, he picked them because they were all flawed and wanting something more out of life, and that the island might be able to give it to them.

And what exactly did he pick them for? He lays out the story about protecting the island, and one of them needs to be his replacement. Kate remarks about being crossed off, and we find out why, its not because of anything bad, its because she became a mother. But, it doesn't matter if she's crossed off, if she wants the job, its hers.

Jack is the one who accepts of course. James of course is all, "Yeah, he would!" Jacob blesses some water and makes Jack drink it and says he's like him now, and he is now the official new caretaker of the island. "For as long as he can". I'm thinking Jack might die next ep. I'm not convinced he's going to be the caretaker at the end, his acceptance of the job this ep was just so anti-climactic, something has to happen to shake it up.

We finally see what Ben, Miles, and Richard have been up to, it apparently took them some time to get to New Otherton. When they get there and get their explosives, Zoe and Widmore show up. Widmore claims Jacob visited him and told him exactly what he needs to do to stop Smokey. Unfortunately, Smokey shows up at the docks and heads their way.

Widmore says they have to hide, Miles chooses to run away (but not before Ben gives him a walkie talkie, just in case), Richard wants to parlay, and Ben just wants to go out there and have it be all over.

Smokey shows up and tosses Richard away. It should be a grievous attack, but since we don't see Richard after that, he could've survived. Then he asks Ben where Widmore is, and Ben's all, "Oh yeah, they're hiding in my closet!" Flocke confronts them, and slits Zoe's throat when Charles warns her not to talk to him (because if she won't talk to him, then she's useless to Esau). Then he asks about Des, and why he brought him on the island. He promises to spare Penny if he tells him about Desmond's importance. Charles is all, "not in front of him!" pointing to Ben. So Ben leaves and just as Charles is whispering it in Bocaj's ear, Ben reappears and shoots Charles dead, saying he doesn't deserve to save his daughter. Unfortunately, Widmore told Flocke everything he needed to know before Ben killed Charles.

Anyways, Ben's acting all crazy now, supposedly throwing his lot in with the MiB and saying, "You have some more people for me to kill?" Now, I'm not convinced Ben has turned back to the dark side. I think there's a bigger plan going on. I mean, he gave the walkie to Miles, he tried shooting Widmore before he spilled the beans, there has to be more to it than meets the eye.

They go to the well and Desmond's gone. Smokey reveals even though Charles brought Des in as a "failsafe", just in case all the candidates were killed, he's a wild card that Smokey can use to destroy the island.

Glee- Some cool performances tonight in this Joss Whedon-directed, NPH guesting ep. You know, my first watch through, I didn't realize Brittany was one of the dancers during the Safety Dance scene (well, I didn't notice Kurt or Mercedes there either, I still don't know if the others were there). Prolly because she had her hair down. I dunno what it is, but she's like way hotter with her hair down.

So plot 1: NPH is Bryan Ryan, a former rival of Will's back in HS who recently got on the school board and wants to cut Glee club because like April, he never got that stardom, so he thinks he saving these kids from heartbreak. But, Will takes him out, and he learns even though Bryan says he hates performing and is in a 12 step group, he still secretly wants to sing again. So, they decide to try out for the local theater production of Les Mis, doing a kick-ass duet version of "Dream On".

With his faith in music renewed, he confronts Sue and says he's gonna make cuts to her budget. What follows is them listing the value of music programs and sports programs to kids. And its always nice to see "educator" side of Sue because while she has these crazy ideas and has an insane coaching style, I think she really believes she's trying to help the students. Anyways, they have angry sex, wherein Bryan reveals trying out for the play.

The next day, he's all excited and gives the Glee club a bunch of stuff like costumes and sheet music, but then Sue shows up and says the director is her dry cleaner and he lets slip Will got the part. So, Bryan gets really pissed and takes his stuff back and says he's cutting the club.

So, Will gives up the part to Bryan if he'll spare the club, and he does.

Plot 2: Artie and Tina and his cripple-ness. Artie and Tina continue their not-quite dating but close thing, and since Will didn't assign them a special project this week, she wants to do a dance routine with Artie to show him he can still do a dance routine in a wheelchair. See, earlier in the ep, Bryan told them to write their dreams down on a sheet of paper, and then told them to crumple it up because its never coming true. He had ended up tossing Artie's in the garbage can, and Tina found it, learning Artie's dream is to become a dancer. Anyways, their rehearsal take a bad turn when he tries walking using some crutches he borrowed from another cripple and falls down. He sends Tina away, but later she comes back saying she's researching all sorts of radical treatments that could help him walk again.

He starts getting excited, leading to a fantasy sequence where he and the gang dance in the middle of a mall to "Safety Dance". He goes to Emma for counseling, and she gives it to him straight, that he shouldn't get his hopes up too much. He accepts this and tells Tina thanks for her help, but he's happy enough, he doesn't need to be able to walk or dance. Or so he claims. So, in Tina's dance number, set to Artie singing "Dream a Little Dream", she picks Mike for her partner, and Artie is definitely a little sad and jealous. Of course, all the Artie/Quinn shippers are prolly squeeing over her putting a reassuring hand on his shoulder when she notices him kinda down.

And in the last plot: Jesse's back and all seems to be forgiven. He asks Rachel about her dream- it wasn't actually make it in show biz, because its not a dream for her, she knows she's gonna make it. No, her dream is to meet her mom. So Jesse helps her with that. While looking through boxes of her old stuff, he slips in a tape while Rach is distracted. Its a tape labeled "song from mother to daughter". But, Rachel is too scared to listen to it.

We find out that Jesse was playing Rachel, but not for the reasons we think. Apparently Shelby also wants to meet her daughter, her life feeling empty as she tried making it big as well and didn't reach those levels she wanted. But she signed a contract that would disallow her from seeking out Rachel until she was 18. So, she sent Jesse there to get Rachel to make the first move, because there's nothing in her contract with Rachel's dad's preventing that. Jesse is feeling bad though, because he really does like Rachel and he hates lying to her.

In the end, he's finally able to convince Rachel to listen to the tape, and she and Shelby do a fantasy sequence duet of "I Dreamed a Dream", and I guess Rachel is that much closer to finding her mom.
