Just got back from watching Kick-Ass with the usual suspects. It was really good. But seriously, they should do something about the marketing, because the commercials make it seem like this fun family movie, kids being superheroes, when its more a ultra-violent action comedy children should be nowhere near.

Anyways, having read the comic, I knew what to expect, though there are a few slight changes. One of them is kinda BS (or maybe I've just become jaded), but I can see why they did it, its definitely a "for the mainstream movie audience" kinda change. But despite these changes, the movie was still good, and if I didn't know the original material, I'd find the movie just fine. Not that the changes detracted from my enjoyment of the movie, just that its its own story, and is still a pretty good story.

The biggest change is of course Dave getting Katie. I think her thinking he's a psycho freak and getting mad at him for pretending to be gay to get close to her is more "realistic". But I'm guessing the majority of the movie audience would prefer to see the hero get the girl in the end. Even if it makes no sense for her to start liking him all of a sudden. Though they do imply she's kinda a slut since they make it so she's the one who sent Kick-Ass after that drug dealer instead of some random, since that implies she was going out with some drug dealer freak. (Because they didn't make it sound like he was just someone she met at the clinic who misinterpreted things, it seemed like she had been seeing him)

But again, I can't fault them for doing that, because Katie was a piece of ass, it would suck if he didn't get to tap that. I was also disappointed we didn't get to see his English teacher's luscious melons. I mean, given all the violence, what's a little nudity?

Another big change they made is that you know from the beginning that Red Mist is secretly a traitor. Well, that and they made it so he didn't actually want to hurt Kick-Ass, he wanted his dad to let go of Kick Ass since they had Big Daddy, who was the real threat. But despite revealing he was tricking Kick-Ass from the beginning, it was a change they did well.

Also, they made it so the Big Daddy origin was the true one, and don't make him out to be secretly like a grown up version of Kick-Ass, just some random comic book nerd who also wanted to be a hero like Kick-Ass, just way more competent. And kinda a psycho kidnapper who absconded with his little girl and turned her into a crazy killing machine. I mean, he still did make Hit Girl a combat monster, but the revenge motif wasn't a lie.

I actually did like the change in how Big Daddy and Kick-Ass's capture went, because I think that gave a more emotional impact to things particularly concerning Hit Girl's reaction.

The whole addition of the gatling jet pack there at the end was silly, but again, I think it still worked out.

All in all, it seems like Hit-Girl was the real star of this movie. (And I think she got to do all the stuff you wish Natalie Portman would have done in Leon/The Professional) But even I was kinda disturbed by the amount of gory violence in this movie, particularly at her hands. I mean, as much as I was into the violence, I was surprised people were laughing and applauding an 11 year old girl dismembering people and blowing people's brain's out and crushing them in junkyard crushers. Particularly since they were going with the brain spatter type of head shots as opposed to the neat little hole in the head. Also, I'm sure there are a bunch of perverts out there who are prolly lusting after her after his movie (prolly in in pics like this), but she is just way too young for that! Katie (played by the The HIMYM daughter, on the other hand, is more than legal enough to lust after.

After that, hit Cinco's for lunch. It wasn't too bad, though the service was way too slow!! There was this one mad cute brunette MILF snowflake on the patio wearing a low cut sundress who was walking her kid around, but since its a little moppet, she was bent over a lot, and I could totally see down the mom's dress. spcv('Nice!')
