got my ass squeezed by a sexy cupid
Nov. 19th, 2009 02:30 pmTV Commentary:
Glee- What's up with the weekly song releases not being released at the same time? I had mentioned the 5 new releases this week, but later on Tuesday they released "Lean On Me". Is that the most number of songs they released for a single ep since the Kristen Chenoweth episode? But releasing the songs the same week as the ep is one of my favorite aspects of this show. I mean, it would've totally driven me nuts if they hadn't done it this way and one had to wait months for a soundtrack to come out. Particularly since many times the song is cut from the full version on the ep. Like Rachel only got through the first verse of "Crush" (again, awesome song choice, show) before Will cut her off!
Getting back to "Lean On Me", as much as I like Rachel doing pop (I prefer her doing this over showtunes, but then again, many of my favorite musicals are the jukebox ones) and Will doing rap/hip-hop/R&B (don't get why some people cringe at this, I find it hilariously awesome when he does such songs) the group numbers are always the best. Well, the New Directions ones. Vocal Adrenaline has the cool dance numbers on the show, but obviously, Mckinley's Glee club sing the songs my heartfelt and soulfully.
Crazy developments this ep. Some pretty weird and a little OOC. Like Puck reveals the truth of the baby's paternity to... Mercedes?! Which is fine if she then became some sort of confidante or started stressing. But even she tells him to stay away from Quinn and let Finn be the father?! That makes no sense! I mean, they say the Glee Club is very worried about her, so I guess they've all become closer friends, but since we've hardly seen those two (Mercedes and Quinn) interact at all, who is Mercedes to say Puck isn't a good father and should stay away from Quinn?!
Heh, even though Lea Michele seems to be pushing for more Puckelberry, I'm not sure if they'll have anything together any time soon. I wonder if she has a crush on him in real life or they have anything going on? From the public appearances it almost seems like the 4 of them have a real square going on. Or at the very least Mark does with Lea and Dianna, as he acts very couply with them in public. But for now Rachel had a crush on Mr. Schuster. Who, like all man-boys on TV is all, "Oh no, a cute girl has a crush on me! I should dissuade her, but I don't know how!" Though I think its kinda BS, they act freaked about the crush, but you know they're thinking they're so great because of it.
I get Emma was trying to be helpful being all, "Rachel responds to music", but singing Rachel the "Young Girl/Don't Stand So Close To Me" mashup prolly wasn't the smartest way to try and dissuade her, because all she's likely to take from it is her crush serenading her, rather than the heart of the lyrics! And then driving her home from his house?! But awesome, the previous girl crushing on him was Suzie Pepper, played by Sarah Drew! She's still kinda cute.
It was a surprise that you think she was back to her stalkery ways and was gonna do something to try and scare Rachel off. Well, she does, but not in the way you think. She realized how crazy her crush was, and why she was crushing on him, and gave Rachel some advice because she thinks they're similar- apparently they both crushed on Will because they know in their heart that he's someone who can't reciprocate those feelings, which reaffirms their belief they don't deserve to be loved.
Which I think is true, particularly for Rachel. She's loud and overbearing and all "I'm so great and talented" but its bluster. Well, she is very talented, but its like a circle with her. She's made fun of, so she puts so much into her music, trying to prove that she has talent and worth, and it comes off as cocky and condescending, so people feel the need to knock her down a peg, and I think its taken a toll on her. She acts so high and mighty, and while part of her hopes one day she'll break free and be a star and show all those people who hurt her, she sees herself as a loser. Which is part of the reason I liked the P/R ship because they are so similar in that way. I mean, he's Mr. Cool Bad-Boy, but like with Mercedes and Quinn being all, stay away, they do see him as some deadbeat loser. People don't think that much of them, and they want so much to prove that they're not the losers people think they are.
Heh, speaking of Rack, even though it seems like the show isn't interested in re-pursuing that avenue anytime soon, they do like teasing it with Puck and Rachel sitting together all the time now. Even if they don't wish to pair them off romantically, I would like to see them at least developing a friendship, because again they're very similar. If she had been the one to find out that Puck was the father, that convo would've gone differently, given how nice she is towards Quinn and Finn. Unlike Mercedes, I'd like to think she'd be understanding and on his side.
But as Chris Colfer said in an interview, Kurt was eventually gonna be thrown into the FQPR square. I mean, it was pretty obvious from Acafellas that he had a crush on Finn, but this is the first time he outright says it. Heh, so his crush stems from Puck pushing him into a locker once and Finn chastizing Puck for it? Heh, so he tries to "help" Finn with Quinn, hoping it will mess up and Finn will come crying to him.
So he convinces the big lug to sing through all his issues. That has two effects, his mom catches him singing "I'll Stand By You" to the sonogram, so now she knows (heh, why is she always wearing those denim bests with jeans), and Kurt convinces him to sing his feelings to Quinn at dinner with her parents. And while it did seem Quinn was touched, her parents (heh, her dad is Mitchum Huntzberger!) know now also, and they throw her out!
That's just something I never got, who does that to their pregnant daughter?! Its like, "Hey, lets throw a pregnant teen out on the streets! I'm sure that's totally safe for her and the baby!" But in typical WASP-y nice, apparently her mom did know (not that she knew knew, but she's no dullard, she just chose to ignore it in the hopes that it would go away somehow), but didn't say anything about it, because you know how "keeping up appearances" those kinda people are.
Heh, and Finn tried to tell them about the hot tub thing and how they've never had sex, which would've shown that he wasn't the one who knocked her up, but her parents just ignored him and was all, "Stop being a liar". Owel, which is one of the bad parts of this storyline. He's so attached to this baby, and its causing him so much stress, and its not even his! Its going to be real bad when all this comes out.
whoops, forgot to mention I was kinda disappointed we didn't see any of the other ballads (though I guess they were supposedly too busy working on "Lean On Me"?) Because those pairings were interesting. Artie and Quinn? Brit (Awesome she's been getting more to do, because her dumb blond schtick is pretty funny. I heard they did write more for her because she was pretty funny on set) and Santana? Tina and "Other Asian"? Heh, was that Tina trying to be funny, or did Will actually write "Other Asian" on the slip for Mike? It is amusing that Matt's the one that was out (spider in his ear?! WTF! How does one get spiders in their ear, and how do I prevent that from ever happening?!) since he seems to be the least fleshed out one. Heh, I guess he's Token!
I mean, you have the principals- the original 6 plus Puck and Quinn. Britney's the really dumb but nice blond, Santana is the kinda bitchy but totally sexy Latina, and Mike is awesome dancing Asian. I mean, Matt seems to be a relatively good dancer, but he doesn't have anything that makes him stand out. I mean, has he even had a speaking line?
Dexter- As I suspected, it wasn't Trinity who shot at Deb and killed Lundy. I didn't think it was, so if it wasn't him or the vacation killers, who was it? Someone Masuka's height, apparently. Seriously tho, regardless of trying to find room in the budget for that DNA sweep, how would that be in any way legal at all!?
But we do get Trinity's backstory. Didn't they say his sister was a suicide? But apparently what really happened was that Trinity was watching her in the shower, and she was so startled she fell into the glass doors and cut open her femoral artery and died. Then that started a chain reaction where his mother committed suicide, but his dad's death wasn't a random act of violence, but Trinity killing him because he was abusive.
And then he repeated it over and over again. And apparently he was mostly calm with Dexter because he was planning to kill himself. Dexter saves him but only because he wants to kill him himself, but then he realizes its stupid to go through all that ritual when he could just let go and kill him right then. Unfortunately, some others show up at the site and help Dex lift Trinity up. So heh, as he said, not only did he kill an innocent, he saved a psycho. I was worried that the whole saving a jumper would put a spotlight on him, but if it does, there's nothing yet.
All that stuff is liable to blow up in his face soon. First, he told his friends and family that he went down there for some weather effects on forensics conference and got his badge and a pic with some speaker as proof that he was there. But with the saving Trinity from suicide, and the fact that he's still "friends" with Trinity under an assumed name, I'm sure there will be a trip up in his lies real soon.
And interesting, so Rita might be having an affair with neighbor guy? Wonder what will happen when Dex finds out?
Supernatural- Had this sitting on the PVR for a while, just haven't had a chance to watch. I still haven't seen last weeks, but saw the "Changing Channels" one from two weeks ago. Pretty hilarious ep! The spot on parodies of Grey's ("Seriously?" HA!) and the CSIs (the whole x-ray heart thing when Dean stabbed the one guy, also hilarious!), cheesy sitcoms and Valtrex commercials? Hysterical! But the Knight Rider one? Awesome! I also find it funny the fandom dubbed it the "Sampala"!
But that was actually quite interesting. So all this time the Trickster was Gabriel in hiding? Interesting reveal. So he was so focused on them because he knew it was always gonna come down to the two of them in the end? Okay, though I'm not sure these retcons work. Like I said, I love the Angels and Demons storyline, but somethings don't fly.
Like yellow-eyes infected a lot of kids and had them kill each other to see who would be the one to lead the armies of hell on Earth. Why go through all that BS if it turns out he was really looking for someone who would be able to break the seals. Which also presupposed the person would have a brother who would start everything by being corrupted in hell and breaking the first seal. It seems then that would limit his targets to babies who already had siblings in existence. But it didn't seem like it had to be two siblings, but specifically Sam and Dean. I realize they didn't know they were going this path at the start of the series, and while they do manage to get everything in line, there are still holes if you really look for them.
