Decided on a whim to use one of my free tickets to see Zombieland after work. It wasn't too bad. This might be a little spoilerish to say for those who know my views on zombie flicks compared to certain other people, but I like how the movie played out. I thought Emma Stone was a little weird looking in Superbad, but she was kinda cute in here.
TV Commentary:
Degrassi- Okay, ha, I just realized that last year's season premiere, it was Darcy leaving to do volunteer work in Africa (i.e. 90210), this time its Mia getting a huge modeling contract and moving to Paris (i.e. Vampire Diaries). Two Canadian cuties leaving the show to star in a CW teen drama, and they were both going out with Peter. But ha, I'm amused they actually referenced that fact that keeps happening to him.
And what's up with the new characters Declan and Fiona? Were they all, this Gossip Girl show is relatively popular, lets add a couple of rich kids like Chuck and Blair from GG or Sebastian and Kathryn from Cruel Inentions to Degrassi! They excuse it by saying their dad is a diplomat who's political affiliations (something about the education ministry?) make it so they need to attend public school instead of some fancy private school? What is it about uber rich siblings on these TV shows and movies that they have to make them seem somewhat incestuous?
Dollhouse- speaking of deviant rich people...What's with these TV shows and movies portraying rich guys from powerful families as effeminate serial killers? And what's with all the BSG guests all of a sudden. First Apollo, now Tigh?
So it looks like they're closer to figuring out remote wipes and ending the world. While the switch with Echo and Victor did lead to a "look, here's a chick personality in a male body to make him seem all queeny!" gag, it was also kinda a deus ex machina. Victor didn't have his gps locator, so its like, they have that accident trying to remote wipe him, switching the psycho to Echo, who not only has a GPS tracker they can locate, but is having those imprint issues and making her the only one who could hold off psycho dude temporarily before he could kill the kidnapees.
But I like where they're going with the imprints this season. Last season, the idea of Echo getting access to multiple imprints seemed like a good thing. Its like hey, she has access to all these varied and useful skills! But it seems like the personality aspects are getting worse. Like last week, she has to carry that loss of a child. This week, it seems like traces of psycho boy are hanging around there in her head. So even though it seemed like she wouldn't be another Alpha, she dangerously close to becoming another him.
And wait, was Adelle implying they made Tigh's nephew brain dead to ensure he doesn't ever wake up again and unleash himself on the world? Oh, and that professor, so instead of living out a normal frakking a hot student fantasy (like how hot was Echo in the short skirt and pigtails!?), he had to engage her on an academic level and explain "Chaucey" to her before they could get it on? Seems unnecessarily complex to me. Like, there are hundreds of pr0n that start out like this- hottie is all, "Oh no, an F! But I need to keep up my grades or else I'll get kicked out or whatever! I'll do anything!" and the prof is all "Oh, anything?", culminating in sexy results. What more do you need? Why would you pay to waste all those hours on not frakking?
Stargate Universe- I haven't actually been watching this, though I do have it on in the background as I make this entry. Given the Voyager-esque premise, where a rag tag group gets stranded on an Ancient ship millions of light years away and need to find their way home, I was wondering how they were going to have guest spots from the old characters or have any interaction at all with Earth. But they get around that by using the crystal device that Daniel and Vala used when they did the body switch and first encountered the Ori. It also explains how they could have Lou Diamond Phillips as a recurring character on a show where people are stuck somewhere, through body switching. He's not with them, but since they do the Quantum Leap thing to represent who's who during the body switching, he can just show up and look like himself to the audience but be another character.
