Some more TV commentary:
BSG- Okay, going by last night's ep, and what I remember from BSG pre-colonial history, let me see if I have a handle of how things are.
In the beginning, 12 tribes of humans lived on Kobol with the gods, plus a 13th tribe of cylons, or rather humanoid/AI machines. 4000 years prior to the series, the 13th tribe left Kobol, and eventually settled on Earth. They start to procreate "normally", forgetting how to do the whole resurrection thing. They develop their own cylon centurions, but mistreat them, or mebbe its just in an AIs nature to supplement their creators, and their creations rebel. The final 5, Tigh, Ellen, Anders, Tory, and Tyrol, were working on recreating the whole resurrection thing, and manage to succeed at it right as Earth was consumed in a nuclear holocaust. So the resurrect in a ship above Earth orbit, and travel at sublight speed back towards Kobol to warn the humans not to create centurions.
Meanwhile, back on Kobol, there's some disaster that forces the 12 tribes to flee, eventually settling on the 12 colonies. Strangely enough, both the Earth holocaust and the purge from Kobol take place 2000 years before the series. In any case, the final 5 don't reach the colonies in time to prevent them from creating Centurions, and the First Cylon War is going on. The Final Five stop it by offering the cylons knowledge of how to make skinjobs and resurrection.
The first skinjob made is John/Cavil. (Or is it John Cavil?) Ellen made him in her dad's image. Alas, he doesn't like the body he was given. Or being human in general. He's also jealous of Ellen's perceived favoritism of the 7th model, Daniel. So, Cavil sabotage and boxes the line. Then he kills the final 5, but blocks their memories, and I guess also somehow managed to delete the memories of the final 5 from the rest of the other cylons? He slowly trickles the final 5 back into the human population, just so they have a front row seat of the destruction of humanity. Through sheer luck, the final 5 all manage to survive, so Cavil spends an obsessive amount of time just effing with them. So basically the second Cylon war is due to Cavil being a huge petulant dick?
Dollhouse- Hmm, a somewhat interesting concept. A secret corporation run by Moira Mactaggard that caters to the ultra rich, providing them with whatever kinda people they want (temporarily), from companions to assassins. Of course, a lot of it seems to be, "Let's dress Echo (Eliza Dushku) in all sorts of different sexy outfits!" But cool, they also have Amy Acker as the corp's doctor, who's still mad cute despite her character's face being all scarred up. Echo's handler is General Lock. And it also has Helo as an obsessed Feeb investigating the corporation even if he's causing waves and hurting his career by messing with the wrong people and following the info wherever it takes him, even if its endangering other cases.
Onto the ep: So it starts with Echo giving some rich kid the perfect three day weekend. Okay, that dress at the party? Ridiculous! I mean, it was totally hott, but it just barely covered her ass! Her next job is a hostage negotiator for some rich guy who's daughter was kidnapped. I heard the pilot was reworked, and I'm wondering how. Because the way the rich guy spoke to Echo when she first showed up, I wasn't sure if it was he was just a chauvinist in general, or if its because he usually has her come as some sort of submissive whore. I mean, the way he was talking, he sounded like he has a lot of disdain for women. So I'm wondering if that came to play in the original version of the pilot.
Anyways, things are going smoothly, until, oops, one of the personalities used to make her imprint had been kidnapped by one of the kidnappers. She learns he's a perv that is gonna double cross and kill his partners so he can have his way with the little girl. The Dollhouse is all ready to wash their hands of it, but handler dude convinces the head chick to not wipe Echo before they rescue the girl. Which she manages to do, though she made a whole lot of assumptions, the biggest one being that once she revealed the one guy was a pervert who was gonna kill them, that they would actually win the ensuing gunfight when she went to rescue the girl. But lucky for her, they do, and they're ready to let her go.
New doll Sierra come storming in though and kills the kidnappers. I guess since the client had gotten shot, even though they rescued his daughter, also retrieving his money would do well in keeping him as a client. In the end, head chick reveals a problem with some doll named "Alpha". I assume that's him somewhere, watching a video yearbook clip from Echo's past, creepily sitting in an apartment with a couple of dead bodies. (his handlers?)
