Boy, I'm glad its almost the weekend. Not that work's been crazy or anything, just that I've been so tired lately. I'm hoping its due to not getting a full night's sleep these past few days and not because I'm dying or something. That would kinda suck. But the staying up late is because of wanting to watch or read this or that, not because I couldn't sleep, so that's good. At least its not some sort of insomnia.
TV commentary:
As much as I respect Michael going for manipulation over going in guns blazing on Burn Notice, its getting a little old. I mean, what's he gonna do one of these days when his enemies don't kill each other like he sets them up to? Like, I know Robin Givens' character's rap sheet supposedly tells us she's impulsive with a violent streak. But that's still a gamble, I think. What if she and the guy from the Mummy managed to talk it out? They'll know he tried to set them up.
And its still an interesting morality he has there. I think setting up someone to possibly die is just as bad as killing them yourself. Even if you argue that he just puts the pieces in motion, and they don't have to act that way, his plans hatch on them having to act that way! If certain people don't get killed, he and his pals and his clients are totally screwed!
And I know they can't have eyes on him all the time, but I would think they would notice if he was staking them out for a week! At least they changed it so he wasn't in the "stick out like a sore thumb Charger" this week, but surely they'd keep tabs on him on more than a weekly basis, so you'd think one of them would be all, "What the hell, he's here!"
On Flashpoint, at the end, I thought they were implying the boss chick was gonna do some finagliling to get the dead guy's alzheimer wife help, but then they imply it was "suicide by cop". But I thought he didn't have any benefits after he was let go? I guess he'd still have life insurance, but if he was that hard up, I'm guessing it would barely be enough to cover his funeral costs, much less put his wife up at that rest home for the rest of her life.
And I'm surprised life insurance pays out on suicide by cop. Given the way insurance companies are, I figured they'd try to get out of paying out in those situations. It seems odd that they'd pay if you got killed doing some illegal act.
Almost to the end of Avatar, just have the series finale left to watch. The "Ember Island Players" is the ep right before the finale, and that ep is almost as funny as the Beach ep. I'm amused by their takes on everyone. I do find it hilarious that Toph is actually amused being played by a huge, buff guy (and that they thought she sees like a bat by doing a weird echo-location thing). And Katara being this goody goody cry baby? HA!!
Though the implication that something happened with her and Zuko in the crystal cavern and actress Katara saying she only thinks of actor (or rather, actress, another HA!) Aang as a little brother was deliciously cruel. Though it kinda makes me wish there were more eps so that they could have addressed their relationship better. As I said, they've made it clear from the beginning he has a huge crush on her, and she's definitely very fond of him. And while they don't need to beat us over the head with it, its still kinda abrupt how they don't address it at all, and then come back to it all of a sudden and then go a few more eps without touching upon that subject.
Like in that ep, he mentioned the kiss he gave her and was all, "I thought we were gonna be together after the invasion". Its like he kissed her that ep, and there were like seven eps before they even acknowledged it as an issue. I guess you can blame it on the play bringing those issues to the surface, and they were busy breaking people out of prisons and learning firebending and trying to get revenge on guys who killed their mothers, but if it was such an issue that she hasn't made her feelings clear after he had, why didn't he address it sooner?
As for her not having an answer, the whole, its a lot to think about, we're in the middle of a war, etc, doesn't fly real well given the way they've been pacing the eps. Post invasion, there's been more than a few lulls. Like when Zuko and Sokka went to the Boiling Rock, that's a few days there where they coulda talked about it. And if they have time to see a play and go here and there, its not like the war is pressing in on them so much that she can't think about it.
If there were really feelings there between her and Zuko and it wasn't something I (and many others) was just making up in my head, I'd understand if she had a dilemma. But there doesn't seem to be that much conflict. He likes her (and I'll admit, when he asked her to dance in the "Footloose" ep, he can actually be suave and charming for a little kid), she likes him. Its not like there's this whole issue of "He's the avatar, we can never be together!" Well, the guru said he had to give her up to unlock the last chakra, but she doesn't know about any of that. So that would be more of an issue for him. And he actually did let go in the 2nd season finale- its not like he got hurt trying to save her. In fact, he did pick duty over stopping her from getting overwhelmed. So its not like she thinks she's holding him back.
Or is the dilemma that she doesn't know if she feels that way towards him? Again, since she's motherly towards the whole group, and his feelings for her in that way only occasionally come up, its hard to tell if she doesn't know if she can like him like that. Its not like she's ever turned off or uncomfortable or anything. So what's the problem? I guess I'm a big lame-o who wants to see more brooding and angst on both of their parts.
Oh, and is it me, or does that Haru kid look totally ridiculous with the moustache and beard? I dunno, it just looks weird. Like when the old characters showed up and they reintroduced him, I just about busted out laughing. He almost looks like a girl with a fake moustache and beard drawn on his face to make her look like a man.
