Monday night TV commentary:

Ah, the HIMYM season finale was prolly one of the most satisfying this season. The way they got Ted and Barney to be friends (or rather, brothers) again was good. But the big payoff was for the BroTP fans. I think these last few eps have been disappointing for all the Barney/Robin-shippers after Sandcastles in the Sand. I mean, they sleep together, and then nothing really comes of it, making people think it was just a one time thing. But the last few minutes of the ep make up for all of it when Lily and Marshall ask Barney what he saw when he was about to get hit by the bus and the audience (but not Lily, Marshall, or Robin) sees him look right at Robin. Awesome!

I'm thinking the writer's strike really rushed this season of Gossip Girl. I mean, so many storylines seem rushed. The Georgina plot is wrapped up really quickly- Serena finally reveals everything to Dan, so Dan and Blair (yes!) team up to lure her to the park where her parents are waiting to take her to a nice boot camp for bad girls that Blair suggested to them!

Rufus and Lilly sleep together. But she still gets married to Bart! It seems like he might be in the know about the two of them. But it seems he's fine with it as long as its something in the past that she's gonna let go. Heh, Rufus comes to see her before leaving on his gig with Lincoln Hawk, having heard from Dan that Lilly only broke with him because Serena asked her to. And then kinda make you think they're going to run off together (argh, you know how tacky I find that!), but supposedly Rufus is all cool with the marriage and wishes her a happy life. Heh, I think he's still and will always be in love with her (and vice-versa), but they just never got the timing right. I'm sure show wise though, they'll save them getting back together for the end. At least this gives him something to write songs about! HA!

But everyone broke up. Chuck gets back together with Blair, and Nate forgives him for the whole thing because Chuck loves her and it wasn't just a fling (which is how I think that particular situation should always be handled!) But the show pulls a page from the Cruel Intentions script. Bart tells Chuck how good he thinks this newfound relationship with Blair is for him and how he feels Chuck is growing up and being responsible and leaving the days of partying and screwing around behind him. Which of course freaks Chuck out and causing him to try and bed the first girl he sees.

So he leaves Blair hanging at the heliport, but she's busy flirting with some investment banking intern or something anyways.

Serena and Dan also break up. Dan didn't sleep with Georgina, and even if he had, Serena was totally willing to forgive him. But somehow Dan makes it Serena's fault again for not living up to his impossible standards. Oh sorry, for "lying to him because she was really freaked out and was worried he'd be mad because he judges her by impossible standards". Heh, I think I recall a funny comment on the TWoP boards all, "Maybe the writers want us to hate Dan!" Heh, I love how he also said he's the "most understanding" boyfriend in the world. (What a deluded freak!) And then to really twist the knife, he wouldn't let go of her after the final dance to further confuse her feelings! How deliciously cruel!

Now you're prolly thinking, "Don't you ship Dan and Blair? But you seem to hate Dan!" Yeah, I think he's a judgmental prick. As much as Serena deserves a nice guy, she doesn't deserve his judgey-ness. But for the most part, everyone loves her, so finding a nice guy should be no problem for someone like her. Blair also deserves a nice guy. (But unfortunately for her, most everyone on the show seems to prefer Serena. Actually, I think their whole weird and kinda messed up relationship is what I see as the heart of the show.) I think Blair and Dan would balance each other out. Dan's not one to fall in line with Blair if she's being too insane, and she needs that. I don't think she's necessarily evil, she just has a vision of how the world should work and if you mess up that vision, she'll mess you up. I think Dan's a forceful enough personality to stop her from going too far. And Blair's a forceful enough personality not to take his Dan BS. So I think they'd work as a couple.

Oh, and the whole Nate/Vanessa thing came to nothing! I guess if we had more shows, we'd see that play out a little better, but both Nate and Vanessa tell Serena and Dan respectively that it just didn't work out. They could make this awesome, if next season they flashback to that week they skipped ahead, and Nate and Vanessa, having found out that Dan and Serena broke up, concoct a plan to divide and conquer so they could be the ones they're really in lurve with.

So on OTH, the cliffhanger is Lucas calls someone to run off to Vegas with him to get married, but you don't know if its Peyton, Lindsay, or Brooke. It would be hilarious if it was Brooke, but I'm pretty sure that's a red herring.

Heh, the whole Mouth storyline and the teleprompter failing on the new sportscaster just reminds me of that video going around where Bill O'Reilly freaks out.

And ha, the #1 guy on the heart transplant list finally dies to make Dan #1, and then he gets hit by a car after helping some old people out of their car. And then the beeper saying a heart has come in goes off! How deliciously cruel!
