geebsSo I've been looking at the ?official website for the upcoming Dynasty Warriors 6 game on the next-gen consoles. The graphics are way better (actually, they're a huge improvement), but it looks like there's a serious overhaul of the characters, some of which I do not like at all. Looks like they have 8 character pages up (supposedly all the characters are returning)
1) Dian Wei now uses a ball and chain- I guess its still as imposing a weapon as his "Mad Bull" axe.
2) Xiahou Dun uses some weird spiked club now! I am very displeased at this change. His style with the scimitar was awesome.
3) SSX (I think, I can't read the site since its in Japanese or something, but its a Wu girl) she now uses a bow. Heh, I guess hanging out with Ina in WO rubbed off on her?
4) A very fei looking Wu male whom I don't recognize. He's very boyish looking and uses a sabre. His outfit is reminiscent of Lu Xun's but without the helmet. So mebbe its an older looking Lu Xun? (EDIT: found a pic that labels him as Lu Xun)
5) Another fey looking Wu male with long hair in a pony tail. Some of his look reminds me of Sun Ce, other parts remind me of Zhou Yu, so I'm not sure who the hell he is, just that he uses a staff
6) Zhao Yun, who looks unchanged
7) Guan Yu has a totally different outfit, but still has the trademark beard and halberd
8) Zhang Fei also has a totally new outfit, but looks like he still uses a pike.
Looking at the screenshots off the character pages, there are some other characters seen: Liu Bei looks younger and sports a clean shaven face, Zhuge Liang pretty much looks the same, as does Cao Cao. Xu Zhu looks the same also, though he might have a different weapon now. There's a Wu male with a vaguely Roman-armor style talking to SSX whom I don't recognize. And there's a pic of a hottie whom I assume is Diao Chan under "screenshots".
The promo movies show a few more people: Lu Bu's armor is all black now, which is cool, but instead of using a Halberd, he uses an x-shaped thing with blades at the end which looks really dumb. Well technically, its two voulges like Wei Yan uses that he can connect or separate. Its still not as cool as his halberd though. Zhang He looks like even more of a fairy, particularly since it looks like he's wearing blush and lip stick now! There's an old Wu guy (geez, all the Wu guys are unrecognizable!) who I assume is Sun Jian. (Heh, they made Liu Bei younger looking and Sun Jian older looking, which is more appropriate to the way it was in the actual RotK) Given that pony tail guy and roman armor guy are on either side of him in the video, I guess its Sun Ce and Sun Quan then? Sima Yi hasn't changed much. And apparently you can swim and climb ladders now.
So to me, they've ruined Lu Bu and Xiahou Dun. I dunno, I guess they're trying to address complaints that its same old same old, but you don't have to radically change everyone! Tweak the system and the looks, but don't mess with what's cool!

Date: 2007-10-05 09:37 pm (UTC)SSX looks a lot better, character-design-wise. Her rings kinda sucked and Ina's bow also kinda sucked so this doesn't seem to be much of a change for her.
GuanYu looks a little more barbaric in this design. Oh well.
Never cared for DianWei and while I did like XiahouDun, I don't really care that they changed his weapon.
Pretty boi ZhaoYun looks like a knight now (Akechi anyone?). Nice.
The unidentified guy is 周瑜 or Shuu Yu in the Japanese version. Or, Zhou Yu in the English version. He likes like a fairy in this latest design, I don't like this change at all. :(
