Aug. 29th, 2007 10:24 amIts no secret I like pop culture trivia. Prolly cause it makes me feel all smart when the stuff really has no substantive value. Well, other than to get obscure references on Robot Chicken and Family Guy. So a couple of my favorite time wasters on Facebook is the movie applications' "Never Ending Movie Quiz" and Ilike's "Music Challenge".
The Never Ending Movie Quiz is okay, I usually know the answers. But since there seems to be little to no regulation going on in the submitted questions as far as I can tell, you also have a lot of stupid questions, like questions on questions. Like they'll take a previous question and ask "this question is wrong because the submitter made a typo- yes/no?" It ruins what should be a fun experience of pop culture trivia.
The music challenge is better, they play a clip, and you have to guess the song or artist. You have 30 seconds to guess, and if you guess it within 2 or 3 seconds, you get the full 10 points, otherwise, the point value ticks down as the seconds do. I'm not as bad at music as I thought it was. I mean, rock and roll trivia at the Star Bar with
psyched_out,
phatjoe,
poodleface, h (alas, I have no nickname for her), jkau, and jbarkle (among others) all those years ago, I had nothing to contribute. But I do relatively well on this. Then again, its multiple choice, so even if I don't know the song, I can usually get it if I recognize the voice or sound of the group or artist. (or if you listen to it long enough when its a "name the song" question. But my average answer time is only around 3.5 seconds, so I'm not doing that too much) I'm still only at 70% recognition though, which would be a failing grade where I went to high school (75% or below was failure at my HS), but that's still better than I was expecting (low 50s).
I have
dashoka beat by 10k on the movie quiz one (prolly cause he doesn't play it nearly as often as I do) but I hadn't been playing the music one in a while, so
moodysweetie is like at 4500 to my 2100. So I need to get at least 240 questions right to overtake her!
Of course, not all my time wasting is spent on pop culture trivia. i-am-bored.com will have some fun brain teasers under the quizzes section. Oh, and saw Screw Attack's top 10 video game ninjas. And one of their choices is the guy from the old kung fu video game. But isn't he a "kung fu master" rather than a ninja?!
