Jun. 24th, 2004 08:58 amSo the usual suspects are back in town, hundreds of dollars poorer. But it sounds like they had fun. Anyways, saw Dodgeball with them last night. It was pretty amusing. Had some really hilarious parts and the craziest cameos, but there were some parts that fell flat. Like, Ben Stiller's character had a few amusing lines, but a lot of the time he wasn't really funny. And boy, were those a crappy set of trailers beforehand. Well, except for the Village, that looks interesting.
What else yesterday? Saw the eye doctor that morning to get the ball rolling on setting surgery up for the other eye, since I'm practically blind in it right now. In fact, its so occluded that the doc couldn't see into it and had to do an ultrasound instead. But except for the cataract, everything seems to be fine in there. So, come the end of July, I should have full vision back!
Later, at Oxford, picked up the second Sleeper TP, which had ishes 7-12. The series has been a pretty cool read. I was particularly fond of the short little origin stories Miss Misery, Genocide, and TAO all told Carver throughout the series. It was nice to see them expand upon the tao character, but what really impressed me was they didn't really focus on how folks like Misery and Genocide got their powers. No talk about industrial accidents or contact with radiation or chemicals or mysterious artifacts. Instead, they focused mainly on their motivations, just a nice, succinct page or two on how they came into the personalities they are today. And there's nothing complex to grasp there, its all tragic, eerily real and easy to see how they got that way. What's also good is Carver's character himself, as well as his interaction with these people who are pretty evil bastards despite their tragic origins, and despite the fact he's a double agent working against them, they're pretty much the only friends he's got, the only thing he has left in this world. Given how the first series ended, it will be interesting to see how the next arc turns out, the first issue of which comes out next week.
For the second week in a row, Country Fried Steak was the special at roasters. I've never had Country Fried Steak, but I'm told I would love it. Its like ground beef, but with that crunch you find on fried chicken. What's not to like there?
I've always thought being a detective was one of the coolest jobs in the world. Trying to get your head around a mystery, figure things out from the facts, etc. And when you do, its just the most awesome feeling. You're like, "It just makes cents, and man, its obvious!" I just wish I was more astute. There are a couple of things that have piqued my curiosity that I won't mention, so don't bother asking. But I got my ears open and the gears crankin'.
