May. 7th, 2019 08:12 amGot MK11 a couple of weeks ago. I really love Noob Saibot, Kabal, and Erron Black's character designs in this, and I like how default Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Kitana, and Jade are in their revenant form.
Almost got everyone's endings, and about a quarter of the way through the main story mode. There's a lot more to collect this time around, in particular new costumes and gear. The grind for which is annoying. Not necessarily in terms of difficulty, but because of the randomness.
Like the stuff you get from the Krypt, there are set things in particular chests, but the other chests are random. Luckily, the currency isn't too hard to earn, but in addition to spending the coins/hearts/souls to open the chests, you'll also need the coins for the shrine or to use Kronika's time vaults to reset the chests that require coins to open, since that will allow you to open them again for more random stuff. Now, the game tells you where you get certain costumes/gear, though when they say "Krypt" I'm not sure how deep that goes. Like there's the chests that require hearts to open, and those contents are set. I think you get specific stuff from spiking a certain character's head in the shrine (which itself will be a grind as it requires having done a fatality on that character 25 times post-patch, which is still better than the 50 it used to be, and it has to be done in the towers) from trading with the collector, from donating to the shrine, or make in the forge. I'm pretty sure you do get costumes/gear from the random chests, so I don't know if that means after getting the stuff from the other methods, if you're still beholden into opening random chests to get every last thing.
But that's not even the annoying type of random. The other bit of randomness is that you get some stuff from the towers of time. Only, several of the towers appear randomly, with some towers refreshing every 2 hours, some after a longer interval. So while those rewards are set, you don't know when they'll show up.
A lot of the costumes are still palette swaps, so I'm not going hardcore on trying to get every single thing, but there's still a lot of cool stuff available. Like I said, I love Noob Saibot's design in this, particularly since his costumes are like LotR shiek, even though he's a ninja. So you got helms and armor reminiscent of Nazgul, Uruk Hai, Orks and Goblins.
Cassie and Erron get all sorts of cool guns, and again, I do like Erron's costumes in this one. His costumes were okay in MKX, but he looks way more bad-ass in this one. Same with Kabal, he gets all sorts of rad masks, as do Kitana and Jade. So at the very least, I think I want to pick up all their masks.
