Jun. 1st, 2012 09:29 amSo, Topless Robot has an article listing the 10 Most Quotable Movies for Geeks (that aren't Star Wars):
10) Conan the Barbarian
9) LotR: Fellowship of the Ring
8) Terminator 2: Judgement Day
7) The Princess Bride
6) The Avengers
5) Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan
4) Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
3) Ghostbusters
2) Army of Darkness
1) Monty Python's the Holy Grail
The article is sound, though the addition of the Avengers is premature, I think. It has some good lines, but I don't think it has been around enough for the dialogue to permeate geek culture like the others do. But yeah, everything else I do often quote. Well, except for Holy Grail, because I only saw that once, and frankly, I think its over-rated.
I'm not sure about them just picking one LotR and one Indy film though. I mean, are Raiders and FotR the most quoted of those? I mean, I was trying to think of LotR quotes I use, and they were both from Fellowship- "...and my Axe!" and "It is a gift!". Although I just remembered I also use "What's taters?"/"Poh-tay-toes" whenever people talk about potatoes (much like I start singing that one Arrested Development song whenever mentions Tennessee), which is from Two Towers. Of course, I'm not sure I would've remembered that line if it weren't for YTMND. As for Raiders, I quote Temple of Doom way more than Raiders.
And how is They Live not on there? Or do most people think they're quoting Duke Nukem? (Or attributing They Live quotes to Army of Darkness?) Also, no Superman 2 either? I mean, reading the article, I guess Star Trek 2 has some Khan quotes in addition to "KHANNN!" but I would say people who do the "KHANNN!" thing are also likely to reference Zod's "Kneel before me!"
