May. 16th, 2012 09:00 amSocial networking conventions I just don't get:
1) "This is an unpopular opinion but..." - Most of the time, I'll see someone post this about some opinion they have, and then see someone else have this same preface with the exact opposite opinion! They can't both be unpopular. And why clarify you think its unpopular, who cares if people don't like it, I say, say what you want and say what you like, regardless of people's attitudes about it.
2) "Celebrity X, retweet this if you love your followers from country Y!" - I'm not keen on asking for retweets. Things should only be retweeted if they're interesting. I'm fine with asking them questions, or even, "Man, it sure would make my day if Celebrity X responded to me!" But a retweet?!
3) People complaining on tumblr or other blog like thing about losing followers because they posted about this or that - Who cares, eff those people! I say, its your place for your voice to be heard, say whatever the hell you want! Don't give those people the satisfaction that they had any effect on you whatsoever by saying you actually noticed them leave when you did X. Speaking of posting whatever the hell I want...
TV Commentary:
Glee- So, I've been seeing some people say Vocal Adrenaline should've won nationals. jv('Oh Reginald?! I disagree!') Unfortunately, Glee on Fox doesn't have Edge of Glory up. But they have the rest of the ND numbers and all the VA ones.
It's All Coming Back To Me Now:
Its a simple performance, just Rachel standing alone on stage, belting it out. And its fine, because she sings it flawlessly and amazingly. It doesn't need the bells and whistles!
Paradise By The Dashboard Light:
I was just telling
clevemire the original version is unnecessarily long. New Directions manages to cut the song length by half and still have a good song that touches everything from the original. And it really makes good use of everyone's voices, its a truly ensemble number.
Starships:
As always, VA's choreography is great, and Unique does the vocals well. Sure, the hipsters prolly dismiss Nicki Minaj as poppy crap, but I feel its very hard to do her songs well. The major obstacle is doing her rap parts without looking like a fool. Most people covering Starships either sing the intro (which can sound perfectly fine, depending on how they arrange it, but I feel they're not keeping true to the song) or cheat as they do with other Nicki Minaj songs by doing them as a duet and having one person do the singing parts and the other do the rapping parts. But I digress, I've spent far too much time discussing the intricacies of Nicki Minaj songs. Its a fine performance, but like I said, I'm not too keen on how they handled the weird dance-clubby parts of the song. Heh, I know I said not rapping the rap parts isn't keeping true to the song, but I think you can forgo the "weird" parts of the song and it will sound better.
Pinball Wizard:
Heh, I know I always bring this up concerning this song, but seriously, how the hell can you play pinball via sense of smell?! It does not make cents! I still say my theory of him feeling the vibrations of the machine is a sounder theory! I digress yet again. Watching this again, I noticed Unique hits some pretty amazing notes here. And like "Starships", the choreography is really good. But overall, I just wasn't excited or inspired by Vocal Adrenaline's numbers as I was New Directions. So, I say LiLo and Lloyd from Entourage (but not Perez Hilton) made the right choice!
