Dec. 3rd, 2011 10:11 amDynasty Warriors blather: Wow, legend mode in DW7: Xtreme legends managed to do something impressive, make me think Liu Shan is cool. (okay, not a big loser) You get hints of it on Xing Cai's legend stage, where she thinks he's blowing off training, but then secretly catches him training on his own, and then when he shows up, he's back to playing the absent minded fool.
Then, there's the last legend stage, where its Liu Shan and Sima Zhao vs Zhong Hui and Jiang Wei (its totally weird how those two names don't seem like they should sound alike, but are almost indecipherable to tell apart when people say it aloud). Also, I just noticed, but is Zhong Hui's new costume in legends supposed to look like a blue version of Jiang Wei's outfit, as a reference to their bromance?
Its in an interesting level, one because Liu Shan is on the Wei side (its odd that they decided to split out the Jin faction in the game, when this late in the history they still refer to themselves as Wei) and two, Xing Cai joined him as well. But this level really shows that Liu Shan has only been playing the fool, "bumbling" into accomplishing objectives (heh, and his "toy tiger" from when he was a kid was a friggin juggernaut!). They really try to make it seem that Liu Shan realized a while ago that all this fighting was pointless, and realized Sima Zhao would make a good leader who could make a land every bit as benevolent as the Shu wanted once the chaos was over. So he was more, eff it, the Jin's the stronger side, so instead of throwing lives away and wasting time trying to defeat them, let's jut concede and work on getting them to be benevolent.
Of course, you could also argue that Liu Shan and Sima Zhao were extremely similar in that they were born into a position where they were kinda forced into ruling the land. And they didn't really want it. Sima Zhao was lazy and intimidated, but Liu Shan kinda did the "not it" thing by pretending to be absent minded and letting the rulership fall into Sima Zhao's hands. So a pessimist could say Liu Shan "beat" Sima Zhao by making him the one forced to be emperor.
Anyways, the last stage is kinda sad, because Jiang Wei's thinking Liu Shan was being held captive the whole time, so then they fight and Liu Shan's forced to kill him. Needless to say it comes as quite a shock to him.
I did finally max out my first person title wise, Lu Bu. The benefit of his last title is he does crazy damage with his halberd (as if he wasn't already!) and maxing people out title wise, they get a fancy cape and crown/helmet as part of their outfit. I was hoping for something more interesting, but it does seem to look good on Lu Bu. I had to "cheat" to do his last title. Well, not really cheat. But be cheap, I guess. Equip the chaos flute and chaos fan with 2x Officer Assassin, 2x Horsemanship, 2xElemental Attack Up, 2x Projectile Resistance (since arrows do ridic damage in the higher levels) and combat resistance and double element. Just hop on red hare and spam the flute's triangle attack. Its crazy cheap, but incredibly effective. Since Lu Bu gains health from using speed weapons, his health does not go down at all, and the combo lightning/wind clears crowds and punches through the defenses of turtling officers.
As annoyed as I am about power guys getting the regain health from killing enemies title, since the dragon spear is a speed weapon, at least they get a "manly" weapon to use and utilize that benefit. And it is incredibly beneficial. I was playing Wu Zhang Plains with Xiahou Dun and got to the part where Jiang Wei ambushes you with the arbalests, and holy crap do those things do a ton of damage. I was down to a slither of health and thought I was done for, but a decent combo with the dragon spear and I was back up to full (and he has max health!) Its why Wang Yi is so dangerous straight up because her ex weapon is a speed weapon. Her health never seems to go down when I'm playing with her. Now if only she could have better musous. Her 2nd musou definitely looks cool, but its so hard to actually hit the guy you want with it!
