TV commentary:

90210- I was a little offended by the end of this ep. I mean, Ade tricking Silver into drinking Mexican tap water so she has the runs, not so bad. Friggin' changing out Silver's bi-polar meds?! That's beyond horrible, one of the worst things a TV character has done ever!

And the CW promos for the next ep was even worse, with them playing wacky music the background and all, "Heh, look at Silver act all wacky because she's off her meds". Yeah, because that's "hilarious".

Glee- not my favorite ep of the show, but I think the songs were well done. Though people say Mercedes gets a tough break, I think its Tina who gets screwed most of the time. Well, not just the character. I mean, she's been a credited cast member since day one, and has gotten the least number of singles, I believe. Also, the songs she does do are rarely released! Like that one song from West Side Story, Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" from the pilot, "Getting To Know You" from the 2nd season premiere, "My Funny Valentine". Rachel's version of "Crush" by Jennifer Paige only had one line of it on the show, and that was fully released! Quinn's performance of Madonna's "Papa Don't Preach" was about as short as some of the aforementioned songs, and even that little snippet was released!

Even when she is lead, she somehow takes a background role to the situation. "True Colors", the focus was on whatever was going on between Kurt/Rachel/Finn/Quinn/Puck. And often, while she gets to do a verse or two on many songs, those verses are often cut for the version on the show!

Not to mention the awkward way they end some of her performances, they don't really do that to the other characters. The weird breakdown when she did my Funny Valentine. And last night's where she got booed off the stage when doing a pretty good rendition of Lykke Li's "I Follow Rivers". I'm pretty sure that pissed off both Tina and Lykke Li fans.

But yeah, the ep was supposed to be about neglected characters getting their due. Not Tina apparently! Even in the media, Marie Claire did a feature on the girls of Glee, and it was Rachel, Quinn, and Mercedes on the cover. Brittany and Santana get way meatier storylines than Tina, and it seems even Lauren is more utilized than she is!

So Esquire has a vid of Brit from Glee sexily dancing to various songs:

Say what you will, but the girl has got some hot moves. Of course, Esquire had attached this video to their 50 Songs Every Man Should Listen To List. So I must make my usual rant about such lists- Who are they to tell me what songs I should listen to?!

DW7 stuff: Heh, so the Shu story doesn't really cover the Liu Bei/SSX stuff, unless you count the narrator mentioning the Wu marrying her to him to unite their factions. But it is covered in the Wu story. Well, sort of. Just like with Sima Zhao and Yuanji, they have cute moments with lots of implications, but nothing so overt. Like they do get flirty, and just when you think he's gonna ask to see her again some time, he instead remarks about how awesome her brother is. HA!

MK: So I've started delving into story mode. Its definitely richer than the story mode of other fighting games. Those games the "story" is usually just something they throw in between rounds. At best its a cut scene, and worst its some narrated text. But in MK, its more like watching a movie, with it switching from cinematic to action at appropriate times. You also have no control over who you play in story mode- you play the character relevant to the particular part of the story you're at. Which is good in that it encourages you to learn all the characters.

I do find it interesting that when you're replaying the original MK storyline, a lot of the warriors from the later games are present, having apparently been participants in the original tournament even though we were unaware. Like Sub Zero shows up with his fellow Lin Kuei, including a pre-cybered Cyrax and Sektor, which I thought was amusing.

But for those who want a more traditional fighting game experience, there's still ladder mode, that plays just like the original MK, several random fights, followed by Shang Tsung, Goro, and finally Shao Khan. I've only beaten that mode with Sub Zero and Scorpion so far. The only problem is Shao Khan is overpowered and cheesy as eff. Goro is only slightly less powerful. In either case it is a chore to beat them. I guess the problem is they put forth a staggering offense so your instinct is to try and defend, but a lot of their moves stun even through blocks. Your best bet is to be even more "offensive" (ha!) then they are and not let up. Well, they do say the best defense is a good offense.

Oh, when looking at the move lists for the characters, their first fatality is listed, but there are ???? for the rest of their fatalities. I was worried you had to "buy" the fatality in the krypt. But all you get from the krypt is the instructions on how to perform those other fatalities. If you know the sequences already, having learned them from other sources, you can just do it and that will fill the ???? without you having to buy it.
