G-D, Dynasty Warriors 7 is really tempting me. cut for your benefit )

But enough about DW. So JJ was asking me at work about Lent, because it "seemed" longer this year because it wasn't ending until April. But obviously, it can't be longer, because its a fixed time period. The 40 days Jesus went to the desert starting with Ash Wednesday, then Palm Sunday (when he came back from the desert) to Easter. But since it seems to vary wildly from year to year when it starts, we decided to look it up. So apparently, they decide when Easter is by having it be the first Sunday after the first full moon in Spring and then 46 days before that is Ash Wednesday. And the reason its after the first full moon is because that's how the Jews decide when Passover is, and as one knows, the last Supper on Holy Thursday was a Passover meal. Now was this method of determining when Easter is common knowledge, or am I just a bad Catholic? (And I can already see you people lining up reasons why I'm a bad Catholic regardless of that, like being cool with the gays and fine with people using birth control and having premarital sex. Plus I'm a horndog perv!)

You know, the first time I heard My Chemical Romance's "Sing" was the Glee version from a couple of months ago. I thought the Glee kids did an excellent job, but I didn't bother trying to hear the original. I'm trying to remember how I ended up seeing the actual MCR video for Sing on youtube then. In any case, I did think the video was pretty cool, in a cheesy sci-fi action sort a way. But since I live under a rock sometimes, I didn't know there was a director's cut version of the video about a month ago:

There's a little more extra footage, but the real difference is that you can actually here what's going on in the video, its not just the straight song. I especially like the beginning where you get the echoing of the song as they go through the tunnel, I thought it was a neat little thing to do. But yeah, all in all, I've always found this to be a sad video. They sacrifice themselves to save the little girl, but there's the implication that they'll be turned into draculoids.

But I can be so out of touch with what's going on in the music video world sometimes, like I didn't realize "Sing" was actually a continuation of a different video, for Na Na Na:

I had seen the video once before, at the student center food court, because I remember thinking, that's an odd video, and was going to look up what the hell it was when I got back to my computer, but I forgot. But then yesterday's io9 article on the top 10 apocalyptic and post apocalyptic videos reminded me of it.

That wicked temptress, [livejournal.com profile] turdburgler, now I'm hooked back on DW7! So I finally got a PS3 so I could play DW7 (well, there are other games I want to play on it, like MK9 in a couple of weeks). Its been interesting so far. Started playing the Wei storyline, of course. The new way they do stories are interesting. You don't really get to choose characters, you're basically forced to play whoever's relevant according to what's currently going on. But as I've said in my previous posts, you can equip any weapon, and not only switch between two different weapons in battle, you can basically change what two weapons you're equipped with mid-battle. So, basically you can switch to whoever's style you prefer on the fly.

I mean, you'll want to equip some of the other weapons, if only because you can learn "seals" which you can equip to give you extra attack power, or earn more skill points when you defeat officers. But these aren't must haves, I mean, obviously earning more skill points or a boost to attack or defense is useful, but there's nothing unique as far as I can tell. Additionally, there's multiple weapons that give certain seals, so chances are there will be a weapon you like (or since certain officers prefer certain weapons, a weapon they favor) that as that skill.

But yeah, the battles are definitely longer, and in between some battles, you have "down time" at your base camp where you can talk to folks, spend xp, get new weapons, definitely way less boring than the screens before story battles in the previous games. But yeah, they do try to mix things up to make everything more interesting. Instead of battle, screens of text, battle, some of the connected battles play out as one long battle.

For example, in the previous games, Su Shui gate and Hu Lao gate are separate battles. But after doing Su Shui you have a little in game cut scene, and then certain areas of the board previously inaccessible open up and then that's the new stage. (Don't worry, it still auto-saves between the two stages)

Okay, I just took a break to watch the latest ep of Degrassi and so I could type this up, and the ep starts off with Fiona having a totally HOTT fantasy about Holly J. But dang, she wakes up right before they kiss. Boo!!
