Apr. 6th, 2011 11:03 amYou know, I was aware of Dynasty Warriors 7 was coming out, but haven't really looked it up since I haven't played DW6. But now that I have looked it up, I do like what I see. But they're up to 62 characters now, including a new faction, the Jin? That's a lot of people.
I wanna say the Jin were added to make the story of the "later years" more rigorous? I mean, Jiang Wei was one of the later additions to the Shu, and like half the main characters were dead by the time he was really doing stuff. So the later levels of his story mode always seemed kinda gimpy because everyone was gone. But with folks like Sima Yi's sons and the Jin now, the characters are more spread out throughout the time line. Because previously, the series was pretty heavy on the "early years", it seemed like half the characters had to deal with the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Dong Zhuo/Lu Bu stuff. And a lot of them were in the same major battles, so a lot of the individual story modes were practically the same, with minor differences. But again, late additions like Jiang Wei had a different story, but since no one else is around, you only get his perspective on the later stuff, by adding more characters you can get more perspectives on those later battles.
Looking at the character designs for the Jin, they seem all royal and knightly and high class. Heh, now that's there's four main factions, I can make a comparison to Harry Potter. The Jin would be like the Ravenclaws, those goody-goody Shu's are most akin to the Gryffindors, the bad-ass Wei would obviously be Slytherin, and those country bumpkin Wus are like the Hufflepuffs?
In any case, I'm glad they gave some characters their proper weapons back, like Xiahou Dun and his scimitar. Though it looks like any character can use any weapon (with some caveats, there are some gender specific weapons not available to the other gender, like only chyx can use the harp), and not only that, they can "equip" two weapons and switch between weapons/movesets in the middle of battle. It almost seems like everyone is a CAW then, since you can give them any moveset, but it sounds like the characters are all set up to "favor" certain weapons. Like I'm sure Lu Bu gets the most bonuses from using a Halberd, etc.
I'm still holding out hope for a Warriors Orochi 3 with all the Warriors Orochi specific characters, all the SW characters and all the DW characters.
