What the frick, I swear I've taken my watch off at least twice in the last half hour only to see it still on my wrist! Anyways went to the ex-roomie's for some gaming with the usual suspects. Played some Dominion. Now I usually don't have a strategy for these things, but the last game, I just happened to blunder into a setup that worked. So that was cool, I think that's the best I've ever done.

But dang, I shoulda joined PJ at the strip club afterward. I've still never been to that Mardi Gras place, which I assume is where he was going since it was the closest to the ex-roomie's. I mean, its been a long time since I've been to such places (I wanna say the last time I was at the Pony was back when I still lived with the ex-roomie, and none of his hometown friends had even married their respective wives yet, so that's definitely a whiles. And D had once again taken the girl I liked), but I was too tired to stay up the requisite amount of time to really enjoy it.

TV commentary:

Degrassi- Interesting development there at the end! Fiona and Holly J? That's pretty hott! spoiler cut )

Heh, there's a new Mortal Kombat 9 trailer out, this one for Johnny Cage:

Pretty amusing, and unlike the previous MK games (well, I stopped playing them after 3, so I don't know if it was still the case with the later games) it looks like it has a decent story mode, if the Johnny Cage cut scenes are any indication. Now I mainly played Scorpion, Subzero, Kano, Kabal, and Baraka (though like all fighting games, I do at least try to stay familiar with how to play the other characters. As I've said before, I play fighting games less to win and more to do a show. I don't want the audience to see the same old, same old, I like to showcase all the fighting moves in the game and to do that I have to know all the characters) and Johnny Cage was okay. Other than the balls punch he didn't seem all that great or cool to me, but from the video it looks like he has a better moveset.

However, I thought they said this game didn't have the dial a combo system? i.e., like in MK3, when you pressed a certain button sequence, it would do a combo, but its not like the moves chained together were the normal attacks for that button press. For example, Scorpions LP,LP, RK, RK, (I think that's the combo, its been more than a decade now) when you got to the kicks, it wasn't the normal RK kicks, the animation changed to a Van Damme style several quick high roundhouses to the face sort of thing. But some of Cage's combos in the video look like they're dial a combos, I can't believe they're just his normal moves stringed together.

Owel, while the X-Ray attacks are cool, it seems like some people are complaining about how they're too devastating look, like how can the person still be up. I mean, Baraka's, he stabs the guy through the neck and gouges one of the opponent's eyes out! Plenty of the other X-rays show the enemy's spine shattering. Yet they still continue on fighting. But the whole premise of the game is being super brutal. It was never as technical as Tekken or VF or soul caliber, or even the SF or DOA or KoF series. But what it had was style- those other games, you could show off by giving a spectacular ass-whipping, but MK you could really rub it in with the fatalities and friendships and wot-not.

Of course, if they don't explain why in the game, you could always come up with a reason yourself. Maybe as part of the tournament, the characters are given a magical resiliency that let's them survive a shattered spine and it heals quickly enough for them to go on. And by the time you "defeat" them that healing magic is spent up. Or the characters are superhuman to survive massive bone breaks and organ smashes, but since the fatalities often involve decapitation, dismemberment and the like, those are too big a trauma to come back from. Of course, while that also still holds up for the tree-eater, acid bath, and subway train environmental fatalities, the spiked pit should be "survivable".

Obtuse statement for the day: Silver has been great these past couple of months, but decided today to trade her in for her little sister. I feel a little bad, but Hadley just has a prettier complexion and I prefer her petite-ness, Silver was just too tall for my tastes. (I was gonna go with Jinx at first, but decided to make a Thirteen from House reference instead. Though since I'm also using Quorra, that's the second Olivia Wilde themed name)

Is it that weird to name stuff? As I've said before, my first car was the Intimidator, because of the Dale Earnhardt sticker in the back window. Then my Sentra was named Star, since the T was missing in the name, so it looked like Sen Ra, which made me think of Sun Ra and his space themed music, so from that I got starship, and shortened it to Star. And now my Versa is Hiro, because Hiro just friggin went on and on about the Versa in the early 1st season of Heroes.
