OMG! Becky's not even hot!
Oct. 21st, 2010 05:52 pmSo, had a class in the Student Center today. Unfortunately, it was the 40th anniversary of the Student Center being built apparently, and class was being held in the conference room right there by the stage thing over there. Which happened to have a DJ today, so there was distracting loud-ass music going on for half the class. But it was like normal music, from Boston to Michael Jackson to Kid Rock to Lady Gaga to Nelly, rather than the weird stuff on WREK. I did have to fight the urge to start singing or airbanding along. But I did get to get a free sno-cone for dessert during lunch break (During which I had spicy tuna rolls, a bag of doritos and my usual cherry-lime coke mix from the Coke Freestyle machines)
TV Commentary:
Hawaii Five-0- Heh, so this show seems to be good for actors of Asian descent. I mean, Boomer/Athena and Jin are regular cast members. This past ep had Hiro and Coach Tanaka (although I find it weird they had him playing a Filipino!) and my sources tell me Kelly Hu is an upcoming guest.
Glee- What's up with the controversy about these Glee pics from GQ? Like the PTC is up in arms, and its not like Glee is a family show. I mean, if they did actually watch it, there are plenty of things I figure they would be protesting before these pics even came out. People obviously masturbating, chicks making out, openly gay characters. I think some of these parents are only slightly aware of the show, and think, "Oh, its about a musical club in high school! Its like High School Musical!"
Anyways, both Dianna Agron and Lea Michele are 24. Plus, GQ is a men's magazine, so why would kids even see those pics anyways!? One of the guys on the radio this morning was all appalled, and was trying to argue, "Even if kids can't get GQ, its on the internet!" So would he have no racy pictures taken at all, ever, because a kid might possibly see it!? The guy was an idiot anyways. His co-host was talking about how there wasn't this much controversy when Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears posed provocatively on magazine covers. And he sarcastically said, "Oh, those are great role models!" WTF?! Okay, Brit's iffy, but its not like she said LiLo or Paris! What the hell is wrong with Jennifer Aniston?
Oh, I hear the guy who did Camp has been picked up to write some sort of show to rival Glee. I've heard good things about both it and Bandslam, but I think the show will only succeed if it goes the Glee route and cover songs rather than make their own. Now, one could argue the HSMs did well with original music, but look at Hull High. Some may say it was before its time, but I just don't think you can be successful trying to capitalize on your own songs. I mean, not only do you have to write a good show, but be a good composer as well? That would take a rare talent. And I don't think it would have as broad an appeal. At least with Glee, you get people feeling nostalgic over all these different songs that have proven to be hits, so you'll also be sure to get lots of itunes/amazon money from the downloads.
But yeah, original work works for things like the HSMs, and smaller projects like Dr. Horrible or single eps of shows, like Buffy's Once More With Feeling, but I'm skeptical you could sustain multiple seasons like that.
