Just here at work Saturday morning, and there's nothing good on the telly. I'm having to resort to watching the Three's Company marathon and music videos, as there's nothing interesting on any of the HBOs. Only got four hours of sleep last night since I saw the 10pm showing of Troy with the usual suspects. I wish C-note would have made it clear he had gone on a gambling trip to Biloxi. Then we wouldn't have had to wait until 7 for him to get back from work since he obviously was already gone and could have seen an earlier showing. Ended up eating at Friday's beforehand and we had a feisty waitress with a smart mouth.

Played some Time Crisis 3 beforehand, got a free life because there were these two sucky kids playing beforehand and after one had died, he was gonna run off with his little cutesy girl-friend (not gf!) but the other guy totally cockblocked him by being all "wait for me" and giving me the rest of his play. Ha, and his friend was totally wanting to be alone with her. Anyways, he only had one life left. Too bad he sucked and wasted a lot of the ammo. Playing that game a little more now, I guess there are sections where its imperative to change weapons. I hate having choices though, especially since the other weapons have limited ammo. Being the frugal guy I am in games such as these, I'm liable to just use the handgun to take on everything and be ultra conservative with the rest of the weapons. But I digress, now on to the movie.

I thought it was pretty cool. I personally thought the one on one fight scenes were pretty cool. Ida know, I kinda liked that quick kill thing Achilles did in the beginning. The guys thought it was a little dumb, but if you think about it, even though he shoved his sword straight down the shoulder, that's a two foot or more length blade, he easily skewered that dude's vital organs, hence the quick death. I was wondering why there was something a little different about the fight scenes and I was just watching E!'s behind the scenes of Troy and Brad Pitt and Eric Bana were talking about how all the moves were kill moves. But I guess they hit on it there. Sure, there was still parrying going on, but every blow was going for the heart or head. It wasn't flowery or anything, the strikes were direct and to the point. I think one of my favorite scenes with Achilles was when he was charging the temple of Apollo. That was the epitome of "economy of motion". Every strike was quick, precise, and lethal. And the scene where he's sparring with his cousin before Odysseus (played by Sean Bean! First Legolas, then Boromir, what is this, LotR?) was also pretty cool, with the deft and graceful way he manipulated his sword. (That sounded kinda gay, didn't it?)

What else? I dunno, I thought Helen and Briseis were kinda cute. And what's with all the man-ass and almost crotch shots of Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom. Its like, put some pants on! But I guess they are trying to sell it to the ladies. Though Paris was actually kinda pathetic. And even though he picked up the bow and arrow later, he was no Legolas here.

They do deviate from the actual story a little bit. Like the whole thing taking about two weeks instead of ten years! But wait, Troy wasn't that far from Greece, how the hell did Odysseus end up taking seven years to sail home? You can't get that lost, can you?

Oh, with E3 going on this week, been checking out the gaming sites to see what's the what. And cool. Gametrailers.com has some of the trailers/footage from e3 up. Devil May Cry 3 looks awesome. I hear you can take four different paths to "level up" your dante. gunslinger, swordsman, trickster, and royal guard respectively. The first two speak for themselves, the gunslinger gets those gun-fu abilities, and the swordsman has all the fancy sword techniques. The trickster has acrobatic maneuvers and the royal guard is all about hand to hand combat techniques. I wonder if you can purchase everything from all four classes if you play it enough. Because you know how I am about getting characters totally complete in the games. I was thinking of picking up Samurai Warriors, but I hear its possible to not get max stats if you don't do it right. And that's just too much effort for me right now. After all, I'm still on my second way through FFX-2.

But getting back to DMC3, there's a part in the trailer where Dante "surfs" a guy. Strangely enough, the trailer for Dead or Alive Ultimate has Hayabusa surfing his opponent off a cliff. (Speaking of which, I really wanna try out Ninja Gaiden) The link for Prince of Persia 2 wasn't working yesterday so I can't comment on that. The new Metal Gear Solid 3 trailer looks interesting. Seems like Revolver Ocelot is in the game, though he's spinning around a Makarov instead. The new Tekken 5 characters look interesting as well. I wonder how this Asuka Kazama figures into all this. And what's with the guy who looks like Blade?

Oh hey, Techknow channel is finally showing "Love Actually" at a time I can see it (right now!). That's a way to kill an hour and a half.
