Saw bunches of movies on Thursday and Fry-day. Rented The Devil's Advocate and LA Confidential from Blockbuster and watched them on Thursday. Then, on Friday, watched A Walk to Remember, Brotherhood of the Wolf, and The Count of Monte Cristo. Here's my takes:

The Devil's Advocate: It S'ok. I didn't think it was anything to write home about, but it was a decent film. And hey, Charlize Theron and that chick from Gladiator do full-frontal, so that was neat.

LA Confidential: This was a pretty cool flick. I didn't realize Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce were in it. I think they did great jobs. And Spacey is always good.

A Walk To Remember: This Mandy Moore flick was ultra-wholesome. I mean, they don't even allude to sex! But I liked it, even though I felt there were some things missing. Like, they could've said a little more about the relationship between Shane West and the Jessica Biel look-alike, like why did they break up? And I didn't feel the whole, leaving his friends for Mandy Moore and then later them all being cool again with each other because they really are friends. Like the scene where they play the prank on Mandy Moore w/ the fliers. Which was kinda cool because Shane West just walks in all heroic, being sensitive-like asking if she's okay and then determindly starts taking all the fliers and punching his friend out. I guess I liked his confidence and how determined he was when Mandy Moore's character was feeling sad to make her feel better. Anyways, he punches one of the guys out and the guy is all, "We're through!" That would have had more impact if you actually saw them being friends before hand! He hardly said more than a couple of sentences to that character and it was already half-way through the movie. I mean, you were sure about the black guy and the jessica biel lookalike being close friends, but he didn't even talk to the other folks. But when its revealed she's dying, he's like, "let me help you with her telescope!"

I really liked this film because they didn't do what I expected, which was when Mandy Moore revealed she was dying, the guy would go away because he couldn't deal or sleep with some other girl to get Mandy to hate him. But he was even more there for her! Of course, I was skeptical about how he was doing all these things for her! I mean, making all her dreams come true by helping her complete her to-do list. Getting a star officially named after, building her a telescope, spending ever waking moment with her, its like, give it a rest! And they also didn't show her die or do the funeral thing, he fulfills her #1 wish of marrying in the same church her parents did and marries her, then voice-overs that they had the perfect summer and then she "left". So you don't really feel that loss.

Brotherhood of The Wolf: This was a kinda weird movie. I liked it, mainly for the kick-ass martial arts action. But it was a little too long and artsy. I mean there were times when they could've cut down on the length of a scene if they weren't trying to be so fancy. And the movie just kept on going! Not that it was getting boring, just that they'd make scenes that seem like it was the end of the movie, but then it would go on. Its like he avenges his friend and they act like the credits are about to roll, but then there'd be more. He revives his chickie, cut to artsy showing of the sky and wot-not, and there was still more! But I liked it.

The Count of Monte Cristo: This was a cool movie as well. But I hear they change things from the book. Hell if I know. I do have reservations about him being locked up for so long. 15 years is too long! I suppose if he was 18-20 when he went in, he wouldn't be that old when he got out. And it did seem a little reverse horror movie-ish because he's busy stalking and ruining the lives of the guys who screwed him. But even though it seemed to be going for a "only God can reap vengence" motif, he gets his revenge and still lived happily ever after. It was weird to see that spanish dude from Traffic, Boogie Nights, and a bunch of other stuff where he's usually a goof, so it was kinda hard to take him seriously.
