Saw Creed II with D&D today. It was pretty good. It was as much a story about the Dragos as it was Adonis, which may have bloated the movie a little, but it was fine.

Since this is the 8th movie, they had to change things up a bit. Adonis gets trounced in his first match against Viktor. But since they're already done the "lost the title and have to work hard to win it back thing", they actually have Adonis keep the title since Viktor got himself DQ-ed with a punch while Adonis was considered down.

So, while Adonis doesn't have to regain the title, he does have something to prove. And the second fight no longer is about some sort of misplaced revenge or pride, its strictly he's a fighter. So he needs to prove it to himself.

Which brings us to Viktor. He is hungry. Ivan lost everything when he lost to Rocky, and Viktor was his way of gaining that back. And unfortunately, that involved some emotional punches from Ivan to motivate him. Like saying his mom abandoned them because of that loss. Unfortunately, it works too well. So when Ivan and Viktor start to get lauded with accolades now that he's a winner, Viktor is a little pissed that Ivan would go back to hanging out with folks like his mom (the first surprising cameo in the film) and these oligarchs. He feels these are the same people who betrayed his dad.

Anyways, thanks to Rocky's training, Adonis holds his own in their second fight. Which heh, given he got 20 to 1 odds, some people made a shitload of money off that fight! I mean, obviously Adonis was gonna win, but like I said, this is the 8th movie, so they have to change it up. The whole winning against the seemingly unstoppable monster has been doing multiple times in the franchise.

And so yes, Adonis fights against the odds, and puts Viktor down. Only, like I said, Ivan a little too well at driving Viktor. So Viktor gets up, and Adonis puts him down hard again. And he still gets up, because having to win has been drilled into him since birth. So when Adonis starts whupping him the third time, even the announcers can't watch, because its just brutal- Adonis is trying to end the fight, and even though he's lost Viktor will not back down.

So it ends up being Ivan who throws in the towel, his desire for a return to glory not worth his son's life. With an ending like that though, can there even be a Creed III? Adonis took on the biggest challenge he could, creating a legacy for himself. Anything else would just be a rehash of the previous movies. And Rocky reunitew with his son (in the second surprise cameo of the movie!) I think this would be a fitting end to the series.
