Rise- Ah'm skeptical! So Lexi (the one with the glasses) ends up uploading a risque video of footage from rehearsals to drum up buzz for the play. When Lou and Tracey find out about it, they're willing to pretend they didn't see it and keep it up there to get ticket sales. And it works, their opening weekend shows are sold out.
But that also gets the attention of the PTA. Who apparently didn't give enough of a crap to bother looking up what Spring Awakening was before when they let Mazzu do his thing. But now that they do know, they're all freaking out, and there's a petition going around. Simon's dad signs his and his wife's name to it, and when Simon confronts his mom, she gets very upset. Partly because her husband is just making decisions for her, acting like they're of one mind when they're not.
But also because they're in a loveless marriage, and she suspects he doth protest too much because he's in the closet. He admits nothing, continuing to insist its for religious reasons.
Anyways, in the end, that weaselly principal meets with Tracey privately to tell her to clean the play up, and if she can get things to go smoothly, she can have the theater department. Heh, I keep describing the principal as a weasel, but he just looks like one to me. I mean, he's offering Tracey a job she should have gotten in the first place. But he wanted to save money so he effed her over when Lou came in all, "I think I want to do theater!" and gave him the job to save a few bucks. You reap what you sow, buddy!
But also, he just seems like an ineffectual prick. Which is kinda unfair of me to say, he's just trying to keep his job and answer to the parents and the community. But there's just something so punchable about him whenever he shows up to throw a monkeywrench in the works.
Anyways, I know Lou is supposed to be one of the protagonists, but I don't feel he's as likeable as the show wants him to be. I mean, he's constantly doing annoying things under the guise of just wanting to do something good for all these people. But it just comes off as, "My burden is that I just care too much!" But its more wanting to appear he cares so much, because he never listens to anyone, even if they know better.
Like this week, Robbie lost his mojo, and one can read letting Robbie skip rehearsals so the coach can really work with him at practice was for Robbie. But its funny that only came on the heels of the radio blaming him for Robbie's football slump.
Anyways, during those extra practices, he establishes a rapport with Gordy. So when there's an injury in the last 30 seconds of the game with them down by 4, the Coach puts Gordy in. And lo and behold, Gordy makes a key catch and gets some yards before running out of bounds to stop the clock to keep them alive. Which they manage to capitalize on to win the game!
Heh but yeah, part of me is thinking, Lou is prolly proud of his son. But he's prolly also thankful his son did something big and the announcers pointed out that's his son, because maybe that will get people off his back over casting Robbie. Robbie for his part is thankful for Lou letting him practice this week and get him back in the game, so he takes him to meet his dying mom. Which, from the previews, are they going to freaking kill her off to give Robbie the emotional gut punch he needs to make that sad scene work?
As for Gordy, he's riding high and wants to hang with Gwen, but she pulls back. At least she's realizing maybe she was being a bit impulsive lately because of her family situation and wants to slow things down. Gordy's fine with that. Because let's face it, she's totally worth it.
Anyways, this week, she totally lays into her dad saying she caught them, and tells Lilette what's been going on. So this causes Coach to break up with Vanessa to "work on his family". Vanessa ends up driving off or who knows where after getting into a huge argument with Lilette about it. For their part, I do think Coach and Vanessa have a connection, that another time and place maybe things would've worked for them. But because he's married and she's a single mom trying to raise a kid, its all screwed up.
Vanessa tells her she and Coach aren't messing around. Lilette is skeptical, and Vanessa prolly does feel pretty foolish trying to claim that when Coach said they need to take a break so he can put his family back together. After the big game, Lilette starts to worry when her mom still hasn't gotten back from doing whatever she did to blow off steam.
Other stuff, Sasha and Michael go to see the doctor. We find out that Michael comes from a good family, and they were incredibly understanding of his situation. Why can't we see that instead of being told its all good? Anyways, Michael worries how Sasha will handle this, but stays supportive when she talks about keeping and raising it. She feels her life sucks, she's never done anything she's proud of in her life, but maybe this kid will be it. It something that's all her own.
Eventually, she talks to Tracey, who admits she was in a similar situation in HS, but she gave the baby up for adoption. She doesn't tell Sasha what to do, but does say she'll help with whatever decision she decides.
