TV commentary:
The Americans- Could that episode be any more awkward? I mean, seeing Phillip trying to work out tuition troubles with Henry's school. The scene in the pizza place with the guy Elizabeth is pretending to be the nurse for (Shouldn't they have had someone he wouldn't recognize do the avesdropping?!), where he's having a normal conversation about sports with his co-workers, and then all of a sudden he starts remembering something his wife did for him, and it turns super weird for everyone. Renee having that conversation with Stan about how much her job sucks and being all, "Hey, why don't I become an FBI agent?" and Stan saying she's too old and informing her he can't really do anything for her to help that. (Also, suspicious much? Although if she actually was a spy, that's a terrible way to go about things. She really could just be an FBI bunny for whom being engaged to a Fed isn't doing anything for her anymore)
But the most awkward thing in the ep, perhaps the most awkward thing in any show ever, was Philip breaking into those "motivational techniques" at the travel agency. Like, yeah, if I was his employee I'd be "WTF?!" too. Because its one thing to have to go to some stupid retreat or class or whatever where you know they're going to go over that corny-ass shit. But for him to break into it a random, that would make me feel super uncomfortable!
It is really annoying that he's having money troubles though. Because seriously, Elizabeth is grating on my last nerve. I mean, she's being run ragged since she doesn't have her husband watching her back anymore, she's being way too hard on her own daughter. But its hard to feel too sympathetic for her given her contempt for America. I mean, I know we're watching a show about Russian spies and they think of us as the enemy. But Elizabeth's hatred is a bit much! Like she talks about how she was hanging out with Paige and Claudia having a nice talk about home, and then she walks out the door and is all disgusted by this country? Fuck you!
As Philip says, her memories are of a country that's no longer like that. She was in America during all the rampant corruption going on back there. But things are getting better, and all Philip wants is peace between their countries, and for Russia to be more like America. But Elizabeth was always the true believer. Which like I said above, it sucks that Philip is running into financial problems, because I hate to see her have any ammo to be all, "See! Look how this country ruined you!" once the travel agency fails and Henry has to go home from school.
But yeah, Philip sees there's no reasoning with his wife, so he meets up with Oleg to see what they want him to do about her.
And man, what a body count Elizabeth has been dropping this season! Like she's basically been killing a person an ep? This time, she interviews a hapless employee at a facility that contains those sensors. She's pretending to be a security auditor going over their procedures, which is actually a clever way to find holes. And I liked the whole thing with the NDAs and her saying not to tell his coworkers they talked for security reasons. And it goes well. Until the guy mentions his girlfriend is also in security, which Elizabeth realizes could be a huge problem for her, so she strangles him to death!
Other stuff, Stan finds out Sofia freaking told that Bogden guy about their involvement with the FBI. She's all, I trust him! Well, you're a moron! And so the Feebs have to pull her and Gennadi and their son into witness protection. Which, its funny, because those kids will now have a story about that one time when their Russian classmate was pulled out of class by some guys in suits... and he was never heard from again!
Also, its funny that Stan tells Oleg to stop whatever it is he's doing, and its like, he's trying to help you, you big dolt!
