TV commentary:

Walking Dead- I think part of the problem with this show now is that it confuses gritty with quality. Like there's been this trend the last few years of darker shows where no one is safe, and what these showrunners don't seem to get are people are sick of it, especially in today's landscape. It was fine when things were fine, but it is NOT what people wanna see anymore when the actual world is going to shit.

You know, Dwight shouldn't have made it too easy on Tara and Daryl all, it wasn't their fault, it was Eugene who get them out. Because honestly, it IS their fault. Maybe Eugene would've figured out a way to get the Saviors out of there eventually even if they hadn't attacked. But it was sure one hell of a motivator. I mean, prior to that, he knew his head was on the chopping block if he didn't think of something, but since they were playing a waiting game, the pressure wasn't as real. Both the threat of the walkers and the threat of execution. But then they drove the truck in and the Walkers poured in, and now the threat was right there.

Its kinda annoying to see all the hate on Eugene also. Yes, he threw his lot in with the Saviors. But people forget, its not like he was all, "Guess I'll join the Saviors!" He was taken prisoner as part of Alexandria's punishment, and did what he could to survive. I mean, he is kinda an asshole for actually helping them out big time instead of just towing the line, doing only what he needed until KAH won. But its like, oh, how dare he not want to get torn up by walkers in the basement and try to figure out a way to protect himself and the people!

And for his part he does send Gabriel and the Doctor away while the majority of Saviors are gone so they can go to the hilltop to take care of Maggie and her coming baby.

But getting back to Daryl and Tara, were kinda morons. They just drove the truck in and didn't watch to see if their handiwork worked? Like they were back at Alexandria all, "I'm sure it worked and nothing went wrong!"

So yeah, the saviors got out and a lot of things got fucked up. Which as I said, how many times do we need to see the Saviors get the upper hand? Like why the hell does the show insist on prolonging this bullshit? Heh, even the stuff outside the Savior counterattack is effed!

Enid and Aaron try to make overtures towards Oceanside with a truck full of liquor. Only Granny sneaks up on Aaron, so Enid shoots her to save him. Which needless to say does not go over well with the Oceanside ladies!

Oh, and the show pulls of BS where things happen off screen just to create fake drama. Like, at the Sanctuary, the Junkyard peeps totally turn tail and run when the Saviors start firing back. But he's saved by Jerry and Carol in SUV. Only, while they do make reference to Jerry telling Rick he'll need to find his own ride, they don't actually show them split up. So when Jerry is captured later, at first you're thinking, what the hell happened to Rick and Carol, but the three of them split of offscreen.

So yeah, Maggie and Jesus are leading a convoy to... meet up with the others for the final push? Ferry supplies? They get ambushed on the road by Simon, who has Jerry captured and threatens them to disarm or else he'll kill Jerry and everyone else and put her in a coffin to be taken to the Sanctuary for punishment. Or she can go to the Hilltop and prepare it for the Savior's takeover. To make a point, he kills some rando in Maggie and Jesus car' (thankfully not random kinda cute blonde Kingdom lady, who according to the wiki is "Dianne")

For some reason, when Maggie is all, sure, and can she have the coffin to bury the guy he just killed, he's all, "Okay!" and let's them on their way. I mean, yes, he took the guns they had on them, but that just seems dumb. Indeed, Maggie goes back, executes the one prisoner who tried to jump Jesus, and puts him in the coffin. She spray paints it with "I have 38 more" and tells her men to put it where the Saviors can find it and gets ready to fortify the Hilltop.

Now, I can respect Jesus wanting to try and come up with a solution that involves little death as possible, but he's being naive at this point. Like, I totally agree they can't just outright execute these people after they lay down their guns and give up, or hang them after the fact. But they are hostages in a war situation. I mean, maybe she didn't have to kill the one guy first (and at least she chose a "bad" person rather than someone at random), just show the Saviors they have people they could kill if the Saviors attack them. But yeah, the winds have changed, they can no longer peacefully negotiate and unfortunately have to resort to such tactics to survive.

At the Kingdom, Benjamin has everyone rounded up and demands Ezekiel. It seems Ezekiel is still in his funk and hiding at first, but nope, he somehow gathered up a bunch of fuel drums while the Saviors were looking for him. He lights them up, drives us a bus to the crowd of hostages while the Saviors investigate the explosion. Despite being unarmed, he somehow manages to free all the hostages (well, thanks to a random Kingdomite) and they flee. Carol makes it here at this point, only to see Ezekiel lock the gates from the inside to stop the Saviors from pursuing.

She and the Kingdomers head back to her house, while the Saviors take Ezekiel hostage. But! It looks like Morgan shows up, and will possibly free Ezekiel next ep?

And back at Alexandria, they all freak out when Negan shows up, looking for Rick and demanding his surrender. Carl offers himself up as a sacrifice, which gives Negan pause, because he likes Carl. I mean, you can see this gives Negan pause, because while he's totally fine with executing everyone else to promote his agenda, he doesn't want to kill Carl. Indeed, later when he's fighting Rick, he totally lambasts Rick for raising Carl to be all self-sacrificial and peace seeking, and that after he defeats Rick, he'll totally take in Carl and by the time he's done with him, he'll be one of his top guys. But that's later.

For now, Carl is stalling (and there's another reason why he's willing to sacrifice himself, but more on that later), for everyone else to punch through the back wall and escape. Indeed, Dwight shows himself to be some sort of tactical genius, knowing exactly where the Alexandrians were going to break through, and purposely keeping the barricade light, much to Laura's chagrin.

And then later, when Laura tries to get him to slow down the chase, he knows there's an ambush there and totally drives into it. He even kills some Saviors himself. Unfortunately, Laura gets away, so he can't go back and continue to be a double agent. He tells Daryl and Tara to not kill him yet, he knows Negan and he can be a help. They can defeat Negan first, he wants him dead as much as they do. Then, they can "settle up". They spare him, but Daryl takes back his cut.

Anyways, Negan is kinda pissed at Carl stalling and then disappearing, so his people level Alexandria with grenade launchers. Carl manages to hide, and Rick shows up eventually and has a fight with Negan, where in the previously mentioned conversation about taking Carl in and molding him takes place. Rick manages to get away, and runs into Michonne, who came back to find Carl, cutting down every zombie and Savior in her way.

She and Rick reunite, and make it to the rendezvous point in the sewers, where they find Carl... who is dying from a zombie bit he received way back when he was seeking out Siddiq! Whoops! Hence him being all ready to offer up his head since he's dying anyways.

Heh, part of me is wondering if its a big fake-out, just like when they thought Rick was infected with the zombie guts smeared arrows in the comic. Maybe Carl was really bitten by a whisperer, and he's actually fine? But the show seems to act like he's as good as dead.
