OUAT- What a twist! So Lady Tremaine is also Rapunzel! So young Rapunzel was trying to help her family by stealing radishes from Mother Goethal's garden. So Goethal traps her in the tower in exchange for her family thriving. Now, we learn later this is a test by Goethal to see if Rapunzel is pure enough to be the Guardian, since she was willing to sacrifice herself for her family.
Rapunzel eventually escapes and get back to her family... only to see her husband married Ella's mom. So Rapunzel stays on as a servant, and while Anastasia still loves her, it turns out since Drizella didn't really know her since she was so young, she thinks of her stepmom more as her mom. Which, something doesn't jibe there with what we know now. Why is Drizella so upset about never having her mother's approval when she was the one who apparently blew her mom off when she returned?
In any case, Goethal shows up with a wonderland mushroom, all, "I saw you were willing to sacrifice your own happiness for others, are you willing to sacrifice someone else's happiness for you own?" She tells Rapunzel to squeeze a few drops from the mushroom into Ella's mom drink and she will be gone. Again, we later find out this is a test, one that Rapunzel fails for actually going through with it.
We know how that turned out, Ella's mom ran away to Wonderland and she got killed by the Jabberwocky. So Tremaine got back with Rapunzel, and one day, Ella and Anastasia fell through the ice. He dived in and saved Ella. Needless to say Rapunzel was upset he choose his step daughter over his actual daughter.
So she takes Anastasia to Goethals for a cure- Goethals seals Anastasia's last breath to keep her alive. Then she tells Rapunzel how she failed her second test, that she was hoping Rapunzel would be the pure of heart soul who would become the Guardian. But maybe someone in her bloodline could be. Only Rapunzel pickpockets the vial of the tower trapping magic and uses it on Goethals, which is how she was trapped there. Heh, and the reason there was that blood magic lock when Hook showed up later was because Goethals had built that in after Rapunzel escaped the first time, not knowing it would end up biting her in the ass.
In the real world, Victoria gets Rumpel to free her in exchange for help with finding the Guardian. They run around the city, trying to give Goethals and Ivy the slip. Rumpel eventually helps Victoria escape to get to Anastasia. Only he didn't know what she was going to do to wake her up, that it would affect his great granddaughter.
Indeed, Victoria gives Lucy back to her mom, and gives the book back to Lucy and admits fairy tales are real. Only, she has something insidious at work here. She tells Lucy her story, of how she sacrificed herself for her family and it all went to shit. Instead of cracking Lucy's belief in the existence of fairy tale land, she's trying to end her belief in happy endings. Indeed, Victoria talks about how even though Lucy's going back with her mom, Henry left town (not permanently, but Lucy doesn't know that!) and shows her a nanny cam of Jacinda kissing lawyer guy. But not of the part where Jacinda pulls away saying its a bad idea and how she wants him in Lucy's life, but she doesn't want to be with him.
So Lucy's crushed, and she cries a tear on the book, representing the loss of her belief. Victoria uses this to wake Anastasia up. And at the same time, after Lucy arrives at home, she passed out. So I guess Lucy is in a coma now?
Rogers continues to investigate Weaver, and eventually confronts him. Since Rumpel realizes he messed up by trusting Victoria and endangering his great granddaughter, he tells Rogers some of the truth. Not the fairy tale stuff of course, but how he's doing this to get back to Belle.
