Riverdale- How insidious! Is the Black Hood timing this stuff just right, or is the universe conspiring to make Betty's tasks to cut people out of her life (or he'll kill Polly) come at the exact wrong times.
Well, the Alice one was kinda funny- the Hood wants Betty to post an old article outing Alice as a former serpent. Betty agonized about it at first, and then Alice opened her mouth, and any compunctions Betty had quickly faded away.
Veronica is the next person Betty is supposed to cut off. And coincidentally, an old friend of V's is in town, whom her parents want to butter up to secure his dad's investment. He's an insufferable douche, trying to get the gang to party hard with him. Which ends up giving Betty a convenient excuse to break up with V by accusing her of being a fake friend who is only friends with them out of circumstance, and once her big city friend comes in to town, she goes back to her old ways. Which of course cuts V to the core.
Jughead is next on the chopping block. Betty can't do it herself, so she gets Archie to try and do it for her. Archie's not sure why it would be any easier for him to do, but since Jughead is in the middle of joining the Serpents to keep them in line (freaking Sweet Pea wanted to pipebomb the paper!) things line up perfectly/horribly. The Serpents show up right as Archie is talking to Jughead.
Archie uses this as an excuse- all, "Oh, you're joining the Serpents now?" and basically unintentionally confirming what Toni was telling Jughead earlier- that he has to be sure he wants to join, because the Serpents will be there for him forever, while his fancy Northside friends will all disappear. And so again, this comes at the exact worse time.
Basically Jughead thinks he has nothing but the Serpents now. And so after getting jumped in, he's so distraught, Toni makes a move on him and he's amenable to it.
Getting back to V's old friend Nick since this plays into the end of the ep, the dickhead ends up roofie-ing Cheryl, and walking off with her during Josie and the Pussycat's rendition of "Out Tonight" from Rent. As an aside, the fact that they released the whole performance online beforehand, I had a feeling they wouldn't show the whole thing in the actual ep, and I was right. They cut in scenes of Jughead being jumped in, Betty crying over being cut off from all her friends, and Nick trying to rape Cheryl. Which seems kinda unfair to Melody and Valerie, since they actually got solos in the song, but I digress.
Lucky for Cheryl, The Pussycats notice Nick walking off with a clearly out of it Cheryl. They find them in time and the girls beat his ass.
While this is going on, Betty confront the Black Hood on his identity since he made her burn all his bridges. He directs her to a small house out of town, makes her put on the Hood and look in the mirror all, "We're the same!" Like I said last time, and this further cements it for me, the Black Hood is totally her brother. At first I thought it was some guy they just hadn't mentioned yet like he was off at college or something, but then I realized, "Oh, duh, she's obviously some baby Alice gave up before going all Northside!" Which makes sense why he'd be so pissed about hypocrisy.
Now, on her way back home, Archie calls Betty to tell her about what happened with Cheryl. She shows up to meet with Arch and the girls, which at least gives her a chance to smooth things over with V a little.
But here's where it gets interesting- later, the Hood calls Betty, telling her he knows she's been talking to Archie about him. He threatens to kill Polly, unless Betty gives him another name. Betty tells him she can't do that, but when its clear the Hood won't be dissuaded from killing Polly until her gets that name. And so she gives him the name of rapist Nick's name. So he might not be long for this world.
