TV commentary:
The Defenders- Just finished this up, I enjoyed it. The sources of conflict were interesting. First, you had Danny's... arrogance? He'd been raised to think he was Kun-Lun's weapon against the Hand. So he thinks the Hand's plan is to take him off the playing field and won't listen to everyone when they tell him the Hand wants to use him for something.
Then you have Matt's unhealthy relationship with Elektra. He puts the team in danger by keeping quiet about her since he thinks he can save her, turn her good again. So it leads to issues when he goes off book to reason with her in the middle of a fight.
Anyways, heh, when Matt and Jessica found the architect dude's plan in the piano, proof to show Danny that the Hand want to use him for something mysterious, I was worried Danny was going to escape and run off half-cocked and getting himself captured before they showed him. But then when Stick broke out the incense, I realized, "oh, he's trying to drug Luke!" and figured, he's going to try and kill Danny, but then Jessica and Matt will stop him in time. Didn't expect yet another twist with Elektra showing up.
Another unexpected thing, that Elektra would kill Alexandra and take over the Hand. So the Hand were kicked out of Kun Lun, and apparently there's this substance that keeps them immortal that they ran out of resurrecting Elektra in a gamble to get to more of the substance at the bottom of the hole we saw in S2 Daredevil. Alexandra made that gamble and moved up their time table using the last of that substance because she was dying of cancer.
They needed Danny to open up a dome protecting the substance because it was sealed by a former Iron Fist, so only another Iron Fist could open it. I guess the substance is made from the bones of huge ass dragon creatures that were in Kun Lun, and there were some fossils buried under Manhattan in that hole, but removing them would destabilize the island and kill millions as it collapsed?
The gang stops them by following through with the architect's plan to collapse the building on top of the hole to steal it, though Matt seemingly dies and Misty loses her arm in the process.
Also, what the fuck, after the gang gets back after the building blows up, they just like stand there talking to their own loved ones while just letting Karen and Foggy stand there waiting for Matt to show up? Like no, "I'm sorry, Matt didn't make it!", they just waited to let them come to the crushing realization when no one showed up behind them?!
Matt's not dead of course, he's secretly alive in a nunnery, and the nuns say to tell a "Maggie" when he wakes up. I guess we'll find out what that's all about in Daredevil s3?
Misty is recovering in a hospital owned by Danny, who Colleen tells Misty "has connections". Is that how she gets her robotic arm?
