TV commentary:

Game of Thrones- Not as action packed as last ep, but lots of set up. Post-battle aftermath: It was Bronn who saved Jamie, even pulling him out of the lake. Heh, even though they should've been right there, they manage to get away.

Meanwhile, Dany gives the survivors a choice, join her, or die. Sam's father refuses, and Dickon, trying to be all honorable and stuff, also refuses, even though his own dad is telling him not to. As Tyrion said, the Lannisters had just eradicated the Tyrells, no reason to destroy another house. And so Dany has Drogon immolate them, and that gets the last holdouts to bend the knee.

I'm just shocked that that's how the whole thing with Sam and his father ends. Like I was worried he'd catch hell for stealing that sword last season, but nope, with his father dead, guess he has nothing to worry about!

But heh, Bran wargs into some crows and sees the Armies of the Dead, and sends a warning to the Citadel. The Maesters are skeptical, even after Sam makes an impassioned speech (and Professor Slughorn doesn't even tell Sam his father and brother are dead!). But yeah, disgusted at the Maester's inaction, Sam does the same thing he did when he was home, grab a bunch of scrolls and take off with Gilly and the kid for... presumably Jon?

Of course, he's so frustrated with the Maesters that he freaking cuts Gilly off as she's telling him "interesting factoids" she found in a book, one of which is prolly one of the most important things ever- apparently Rhaeygar had his marriage to Elia Martell annulled so he could secretly marry someone. I mean, we're pretty sure its Lyanna Stark, but we don't know because Sam didn't let Gilly finish!

Anyways, with the Army of the Dead on the move, Jon can't stand around doing nothing. So, they make a plan to capture a wight and show it to Cersei to hopefully get an armistice so they can make an alliance to fight the "real" threat. Davos and Tyrion sneak into Kings Landing, where Bronn arranges a meet with Jamie for Tyrion to implore his brother to get Cersei to listen to reason.

Which, in the aftermath of the wagon train battle, he's been trying to tell Cersei they're fucked, there's no way they can beat Dany's army. So he tells Cersei that Tyrion says Dany wants to cease hostilities for now to turn their attention to the ice zombies. Which, Cersei is already thinking how she can use this situation to her advantage. Oh, and she's preggers! So just when it looks like Jamie was starting to separate from his sister, she pulls him back in. I mean, she took out the religious right, so when Jamie is all, "Who will we say the father is?" she's all, don't care if everyone knows we're incest twins!

While Tyrion was meeting with his brother. Davos goes into Fleabottom to find... Gendry. Ha, they even make a reference to the Gendy still rowing meme with Davos being all, I thought you'd still be rowing. Apparently Gendry opted to hide right under Cersei's nose. So Davos takes him with him when he and Tyrion head back. Gendry is all, I'm not a trained swordsman, but I have this big ass warhammer!

Davos wanted Gendry to keep the whole being Robert's bastard on the downlow, he didn't want to worry Jon about such things. But Gendry goes right up to Jon all, "I'm a bastard, you're a bastard, our fathers were best friends and fought alongside each other, let's continue the tradition!"

And so he joins Jon and Davos on their quest to go to Eastwatch to capture a wight. Also joining them? Jorah, who's just shown up, greyscale free. Which is hilarious, because with Daario gone, he's prolly thinking, I finally have a chance, but now Dany is giving Jon the googly eyes.

But they end up getting a regular suicide squad going- Jon and company arrive at Eastwatch, where Tormund also joins their party, and tells them, "Oh, we caught some guys trying to cross north of the wall. And its the Hound, Beric, and Thoros! Despite the animosity between Gendry and the Brotherhood for giving him to Melisandre, and apparently between Tormund and Jorah because he's Jeor's son, they team up to go beyond the wall to capture a wight.

Finally, in Winterfell, Arya is distrustful of Littlefinger, and spies on him, following him around until he hides a secret message in his room. Which Arya breaks into and finds, and its the message Sansa wrote under duress was back when, telling Robb to cease hostilities and that "father was a traitor". When Arya leaves, it turns out that Littlefinger knew she was following him and this was all part of his plan to let her see that message, presumably to sow some sort of discord between the sisters.
