Game of Thrones- Lots of setup. So the ep starts with Arya killing off the rest of the male Freys, then heading back down to King's Landing to kill Cersei.
Speaking of, Jamie reminds them of the precarious position they're in, surrounded by enemies- the Starks to the North, The Tyrells to the West, Dorne to the south, and Dany coming in from the east. So she takes a proposition from Euron, but rebuffs him. So he vows to get her a "gift". Which prolly means capturing someone in Dany's retinue.
In the North, Sansa and Jon have disagreements on how he should lead. It was suggested the Umbers and Carstarks be stripped of their land for siding with the Boltons, their lands given to Stark loyalists. But Jon doesn't want to punish the survivors for the mistakes of their fathers. Though at the same time, Sansa points out they're betrayers (tho those who survived might not be so disloyal) and the loyalists deserve something for their, well, loyalty. She warns Jon this sense of honor will get him killed like it did Ned and Robb.
I wonder if a compromise could be found? Of course, the whole thing came up over a discussion of what to do about the approaching white walker army (which does indeed included wight-giants). Its like heh, the Umbers and Carstarks hold the first two strongholds in their path. You'd think they'd be all, "Umm, sure, we'll let someone else have these lands and take up the defense against the ice zombie army!"
Bran and Meera do make it back through the wall. And Thoros tries to show the Hound how to read the fire- and the Hound ends up seeing the zombie army breaking through the wall.
In the end, Dany makes it back to Dragonstone with her armies. And its like, yes Stannis abandoned it for his Northern campaign, but given its strategic importance, no one grabbed it up?
The Strain- Also setup. So I guess following the season finale, the strigoi took over the world? There's a time jump and we see there's a collaborationist government working with them. Ephraim is I guess just keeping his head down and living as a scavenger, taking odd jobs to survive? But its only a matter of time before he joins the rebels.
Fet has a new gf in Rhona Mitra, working with Quinlan to find a nuke for Sterakian, but I don't think we actually see him for real in this. We only see Fet interact with him in a dream. Dutch is nowhere to be found, which is troubling.
Oh, and Zach is loyal to the Master now, being fed the white, and getting a hot new maid. Which, weird, I just saw the actress in a Hallmark movie that afternoon, and thought, she's kinda cute. I saw the Strain listed on her credits, but didn't pay too much mind, I assumed she was in a previous season and I just didn't remember her. Didn't know she was in this new one. Needless to say, Zach's guard dog girl doesn't like her.
Preacher- Wow, Jesse's kinda nuts. So we find out what happened between the robbery where Tulip lost her baby and the start of the series. They were trying to live a normal life. Or at least Jesse was, although it seemed he was spending more time drinking and getting high. Tulip meanwhile pretended to be a realtor... assistant. Well, she intended to be a realtor, but that didn't work out, so she was secretly taking the kinda jobs Jesse thought they should stop doing.
Eventually he left to become a preacher, since he heard he still owned that one church. And Tulip married Victor. But eventually she took off to get revenge on that one guy. And we know how that all turned out.
Heh, that was kinda ridiculous when Jesse came home and Tulip thought he killed Victor, because he was all, "I took him down!" which it was only phrased that way to create drama. Because 1) he knew if he killed Victor, Tulip would never forgive him. And despite Cassidy saying she would eventually go back to him even if he did that, he still wasn't going to do it. Which, if he knows how important it is that Tulip not think he killed Victor, why would he say things so vaguely?
And 2) to be fair though, Tulip shouldn't have assumed things when he said "I took him down!", because why would he phrase, "Yeah, I killed that MF-er!" as "I took him down"? I'd think she'd be all "wait, did you take him down, or did you take him down, down?" I mean, last she saw him and Victor, he was pissed. If he wanted to kill Victor, I think he would have some choicer words when he came back.
Although, technically, he did kinda kill Victor- by using the voice in his home, he knows that attracts SoK. So he should know he doomed that guy.
