Timeless- Whoops! So Wyatt gets Rufus to take him back to the 80s to prevent the guy who killed his wife from being born. At first I was thinking, was he going to kill the parents or something? But conveniently, the killer had been conceived from a one night stand between a stewardess and a hotel bartender. So all Wyatt has to do is stop them from boning and its all good.
Too bad everything that goes wrong can go wrong, and eventually in his desperation, he breaks into their hotel room right before they're about to do it and takes the guy hostage just to stop them from screwing. Too bad the guy tries to escape, trips, and suffers a fatal head injury. He feels horrible, and the only thing keeping him sane is that he at least saved Jessica.
Wyatt comes back, and while he did prevent that serial killer from being born and the first two victims being killed, Jessica is still dead. So apparently something else happened to his wife. Isn't his wife missing and they've just presumed she's dead, or did they ever find a body? Its never been clear. Like in the beginning I thought they said she died in some accident after having a fight with Wyatt, but the later they revealed she got killed by the killer after Wyatt left. But I could swear at some point Wyatt says he doesn't even know what happened to his wife's body, just that he was sure she was killed. I'm thinking there will eventually be a twist where she's been alive this whole time.
Also, the serial killer's mom's friend was totally flirting with Rufus, and she actually has a lot of the same interests, but I guess he's oblivious/pays it no mind since they're only there for the night. Which leads to a scene where the bartender thinks Rufus is gay, because he tells the bartender he'd rather stay with him instead of getting with the girl. Or Rufus could've just said, "I have a girlfriend!", which he does, to keep people off his back
Anyways, Lucy is absent for all this because Wyatt didn't want her to get involved with all this. Which if I were her, I'd be all, "Hell no!" They don't know what happens to the rest of the world while they go gallivanting through time! Like after they change the past, she could cease to exist, and Wyatt and Rufus come back to a different version of her. Or they could not come back at all! For all they know, its like BttF. They go back to a present that's different from the one they left and the one they left from just never sees them again.
Like maybe that's how it all goes. They leave a universe, that universe never gets a return package, but the travelers would never know because the original universe has no way of interacting with them! But yeah, there's so many things that could go wrong, so many metaphysical questions they don't know the answers to, that the safest place is on the time machine. Better to be at the focal point of the change rather than being subject to the changes someone else made.
I mean, I'm surprised that part doesn't freak them out. Since things have never gone perfectly in all their trips, every time they go, they're doing the equivalent of erasing the memories of everyone else and replacing them with new ones. I'm surprised the other people in the program don't freak out either. For all they know, something crazy could happen, and they wouldn't even know the difference!
Anyways, Lucy does at least finally find out that one dude is her father. And Agent Christopher is there when she figures it out, so we don't have one of those things where she finds out, but keeps it a secret from everyone else. At least other people do know!
Oh, and heh, ever since they rescued Renee Walker from 24 from the past, I knew Matt Frewer was toast. And he's supposed to be a smart guy too, he didn't see that coming?! Like I think since only he and Rufus knew how to pilot the machines, he felt confident Flynn would not only not kill him, but protect him. He didn't foresee them getting a former pilot would change the equation and make him expendable?!
