Saw Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them today. It was pretty good, if they really are making a series of this, I think this movie sets a good example and makes me hopeful. Though it sounds like the numbers aren't greaat. But yeah, in the Harry Potter movies, most of our experiences in this world where magic exists is centered around Hogwarts, a school. This movie shows us the potential of what they get to do out in the rest of the world.

It still bugs me that there's only one American school (Queenie's defense of Ilvermorny as the best wizarding school is mad cute tho) Like freaking Hogwarts/Beaubaxtons/Durmstrang cover an area smaller than the continental US, and they needed 3 separate schools!

But I digress, some pretty cool sequences, likable stylish characters, interesting setup for future movies, I actually do hope there are more now. Heh, how freaking convenient for Graves/Grindelwald that Scamander showed up in NYC and gave him the perfect scapegoat?! I mean, he must have been praising the gods when that Obscurus killed that Senator, and Tina just shows up with Newt and Jacob and the case of beasts. That way, that MACUSA lays off the investigation, thinking they have the answer. But yeah, that and he got his hands on all those beasts, including an Obscurus! Though he was surely disappointed when he found out it was useless with the host dead. (Also, way to give yourself away there Graves!)

Its an interesting development for that universe, Obscurials, the result of when you try to repress a born magic user from using their magical powers. Now, was Creedence actually a Squib like Graves thought, and that's why he lived so long? Like because he has magical blood, he's still able to form an obscurus even if he can't do magic himself? Or was Graves just wrong?

One thing I found dark was when Graves ordered Tina and Newt executed, was the method that was going to be used. Like, heh, I get it had to be elaborate to give time for Newt's little branch fella to pick his cuffs, but taking a pleasant memory and using it to lull the victim into their own doom is kinda messed up. I mean, surely they have something quick and painless! Does the Avada Kedavra cause pain? Didn't Sirius say its just like falling asleep? I thought it was too quick to hurt?

The MACUSA is pretty ruthless though. Its like damn, they freaking turned Creedence into swiss cheese though! I guess Americans taking things down with overwhelming firepower is kinda appropriate.

And heh, the Queenie-Jacob thing reminded me of this reunion TV-movie they had of "I Dream of Jeannie... 15 Years Later." To save Nelson's life, she ended up having to give up her life with him. But then she goes and meets him again all, "Haji made me agree to an ending. He never said there couldn't be a new beginning!" So Jacob knows he has to be obliviated according to the law, meaning he'll forget all his adventures with his new friends, and falling in love with Queenie! But he accepts it. But Newt sneaks him silver egg shells so he can get his bakery, and then Queenie shows up there so she can meet him again.
