The Detour- Heh, they finally explain how Sophie from the Originals (Oh, weird, how am I only now realizing she has the same name as Sophie from Leverage? Or maybe I did and forgot. But I digress) and Natalie Zea (wait, her character's name has been Robin this whole time? For some reason that doesn't sound right) are sisters even though they look nothing alike. They're only half sisters. Its an unimportant detail, but I applaud them for answering that question, because I've been wondering that!
Castle- That was a... weird ending to the series. I mean, I get why its like that, because they filmed two endings, one for if it was renewed and one if it wasn't. But the way they cut it seems rather abrupt. Like Major Dad randomly being Loksat (him being in the Great Detective Society is just a weird coincidence), fine. But I think the other twist of Caleb still being alive was unnecessary if they were going the series finale route.
I mean, Castle did have a point about, why did the right hand man take "Caleb" out to the some random area and burn him there, when the Black Site had a convenient oven to get rid of bodies? But it was a minor detail that they could've just ignored, and just cut out the part where he ambushes Rick and Kate in their apartment. Or do a little more than they did with the flashforward. As it was, Kate and Rick are on the kitchen floor, bleeding out, but then they just pan away all, "J/K, they survive and have 3 children!" Its a little too abrupt.
Also, I'm not even sure that twist made sense. They had the the Castles/Vikram/Haley trapped, they could've killed them right there, and would have, if Major Dad had not arrived. Was that just so they could suss out who Kate and Castle told? I mean, I guess they didn't know, but it seemed like Ryan, Espo, Martha and Alexis wouldn't have known if not for the ambush, because in the case of the former, Vikram wouldn't have needed to try and go to them for help, and in the case of the latter, Haley wouldn't have had to take Martha and Alexis to the safe room and explain to them why they had to go into hiding. I guess Loksat wouldn't have known that they didn't know yet.
Actually, the more I think about it, the less that whole thing makes sense. Why would they bother with the Caleb ruse and make Castle and Beckett think he got found out and was killed? Like the baddies couldn't have known Espo would've called at that exact time to tell Kate the body was Caleb's. And if the ambush was meant to kill them all, what would've it have mattered? And if they escaped, or if it was a ruse for Loksat to get their trust so he could interrogate them later, its an incredibly minor detail to work out. I mean, even if they didn't discover the body was Caleb's, I'm sure they would've just figured Caleb got killed and replaced and not really give it that much of a second thought.
Of course, that ambush didn't really make sense either. If they were wanting to just silence Castle, Beckett and the people they know, it seems like they wouldn't kill them in a big shootout. That brings questions- either they got killed by a highly trained group of gunmen, which would raise huge red flags. Or they just disappear off the face of the Earth, which would also raise huge red flags!
Also, how did they all escape the Black Site? The cops were pinned down by highly trained CIA assassins, and they couldn't call out. I guess after they killed Loksat, Rick and Kate could've found a phone or radio that called for backup? But had the bad guys succeeded, what would've been the cover story? Would they have had to scrap the building? I mean, disappearing a husband and wife, its incredibly suspicious, but doable. But a squad of cops going to a building and just disappearing? It seems like the only way that would work is to give up the building, and somehow make it look like it was run by criminals or terrorists or something.
In any case, I guess I'm happy its a happy ending at least. But the way they shot the ending, if they did do season 9 without Kate, was she going to die in the kitchen? That would've been total BS! Like I would be fine if they did a final season, where she was like in Washington to be a Senator like the time traveler said, and so she just wasn't around, but I would be pissed if they destroyed Caskett, and Castle was just sad and alone.
