Mar. 28th, 2016 08:38 amSaw Batman vs Superman over the weekend with the usual suspects. I mean, the fights certainly looked cool, but it was way too bloated. As
clevemire says, there's a decent Man of Steel sequel to be found in the movie, but then they had to go on and tack Batman as well as the Justice League setup. I thought Wonder Woman was certainly cool, but truthfully, if they took her out of the movie, it wouldn't have really made a difference. I mean, I guess the movie is Superman vs Batman, and as I said it was pretty bloated already so they couldn't be faulted for not doing more with her. It was just disappointing that she was there merely for setup but I guess she'll get a chance to shine in her own movie.
Heh, maybe instead of spending five minutes having her watching a bunch of videos of Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg, they could've given her something of significance. But like I said, the Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman fight vs Doomsday-Zod at least looked cool.
But yeah, one of the most ridiculous conceits of the movie is that the whole outcome of the Superman vs Batman fight hinges on the fact that Clark and Bruce's moms have the same name. If not for that, Superman would be dead- so Lex forces Superman to go after Batman by kidnapping Martha. Supes tries to reason with Batman, hoping to get him to help him. But Batman won't listen. Batman eventually gets the better of Superman with his Krytonite weapons. He's about to spear Superman and kill him, when Supes starts crying about having to save Martha.
Which gives Batman pause, all confused why he would say that name. So Lois explains it to him, Batman and Superman become friends, and Batman saves his mom before Lex's deadline. Which, good thing Lex just happened to use a guy who's phone Bruce cloned earlier in the movie. Well that, and for some reason they decided to bring her all the way to Gotham where Batman could find and reach her, as opposed to a safehouse closer to Kansas.
Anyways, Superman "dies" killing Doomsday, and all of a sudden Clark was like his best friend showing up at his funeral in Kansas and telling Diana how the people back east are burying an empty coffin. Which, so when Superman shows back up, won't people be suspicious that Clark Kent also comes back to life? But yeah, that brings us to the other weird part of the movie. Apparently Bruce is having prophetic dreams? Possibly cause by future Barry somehow using the Speed Force to enter his dreams? He sees a vision of a future where Darkseid has invaded, and for some reason Supes is working for him.
So Bruce tells Diana they have to round up Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg and other people like them, because he has a feeling.
TV commentary:
Second Chance- Hey, that was the series finale, right? At least it ended in a somewhat reasonable place. Otto ends up killing himself and the main bad guy in order to save Gracie, which I woulda been pissed if all that stuff got left unresolved. And Duval is able to use the guy's secret base to prove he's not a nutcase. They have to say Jimmy is dead though, because if they find out about him, he'll be taken to some lab and be experimented on. But I guess Alexa has nothing to worry about?
Well, I suppose the FBI knew something was suspicious about Jimmy, they have no idea who Alexa is. Anyways, in the end, Mary goes to India to mourn, and Alexa and Jimmy live in the mansion, sharing her regeneration tank.
Also, Otto somehow sent his consciousness into the internet, and warns Mary that it is inevitable that Jimmy will go nuts and become super violent. So its an ominous end, but its a fine stopping point.
OUAT- Learn some new things about Hook's brother. In the Enchanted past, Hook and his brother were still indentured servants on that ship their father sold them to. But, they finally earned enough money to buy their freedom, if they sign up with the Imperial Navy. Too bad their Captain Silver is a jerk and gets Killian drunk so he'll gamble away his money and stay on his ship.
So Liam sticks with his brother, but they mutiny when the captain wants to sail into a hurricane to recover some famed jewel. Too bad Hades was all ready to receive these poor souls. So, he makes a deal with Liam- sail into the storm, and let everyone die, and Hades will spare the Jones brothers and give Liam the jewel. Liam agrees, which is how they became Navy men.
In the underworld, Hades blackmails Liam into helping him by ripping out the Hades pages from the Underbrooke copy of the book, which he does. Too bad the previous captain had overheard of Liam's deal and gathers the former crew to toss him into hell. Hades shows up, tosses Captain Silver into hell and menaces Liam, who had decided to renege on the deal and confess what he did to his brother. So Liam also gets blown over, and Hook tries to save him. But Liam says this is what he deserves and lets go of Hook... which is exactly the sort of self sacrifice needed for him to be redeemed. So, he and the rest of the crew who died in the storm get to go to Heaven.
Anyways, we see part of what Hades did not want the gang to see, that apparently he was involved with Zelena.
Other stuff, the Apprentice meets up with Henry and tells him his unfinished business has to do with Henry's choice whether to use the quill for his own gain or merely be a transcriber of history. So, heh, no pressure there. At least he tells the fam about all that!
TWD- Smooth move, ex-lax! So, Daryl goes off to track down Dwight and get revenge, because he's made Denise's death all about him. Michonne, Glenn, and Rosita go after him, so numbnuts ends up getting them all captured by the Saviors. Who are apparently sneaky effs who can fool even experienced folks like the gang.
Meanwhile, we saw that Carol ran off. She gets ambushed by some of the Saviors, but pulls off the weak woman act long enough to kill most of them with a hidden automatic weapon. We don't see what happens to her, but she leaves two alive in her wake. One of whom Rick finishes off when he and Morgan happen upon the carnage. The other had ran and hid and follows them following a trail of blood that could be Carol.
On the walk, Morgan confesses about trying to convert the Wolf, all had he not saved the Wolf, he wouldn't have saved Denise, who wouldn't have been able to save Carl, trying to be all circle of life. Of course, he misses the fact that had he not spared the Wolf in the first place, Denise wouldn't have been in that situation where she needed saving.
Ida know, Morgan's philosophy is indeed noble, but I think the right path is somewhere in the middle. I mean, I think Carol and Rick have swayed too far, but Morgan also has to realize there's just some people you can't reason with. I mean, his philosophy is fine for himself- like its perfectly fine for him to try and spare people even if it will kill him. But for a community, with armed psychos at the gate wanting to kill and rape and all that, you can't just reason with them and hope they won't hurt anyone else.
Anyways, heh, we get our first glimpse of one of the Kingdom people. Morgan splits off with Rick after that- I wonder if Morgan will end up with the Kingdom. His whole persona actually kinda fits with them.
