Degrassi- Finally finished the season. Its unfortunate that it was only 10 eps, because there was a lot of stuff left dangling. Like the Gracevas stuff. After Zoe showed the video to Grace, we don't see any aftermath between the two of them. Like Tristan and Zoe talk about it offhandedly, but for Grace it just becomes a thing for her to get angry at Zig over for cheating on Maya like that.
Even in the last episode, Zoe and Maya are locked in the bathroom together, and they talk about that, but Zoe doesn't even mention it was because she was lashing out at Grace. I mean, between them being frenemies and the history they have with Zig, for all Maya knows, Zoe was just being a bitch to her! And in the end, Maya forgives Grace for not telling her about Zig, not knowing the reason Zoe went after Zig was because Grace claimed she liked him. The whole lesbian part of the situation feels totally written out of the scenario, why the whole thing stinks of queer baiting. Maybe they'll address it next season, but if not, just another missed opportunity.
And then Esme, she fakes the suicide attempt and asks Miles to run away with her, but he doesn't, because obviously they're toxic together. But we never find out what happens with that! The storyline wasn't well developed either. She claims Miles is the only one who made her feel normal, and how they're two of a kind, but we know nothing about her other than she's that crazy girl who gives Miles drugs! How are they similar? Why does she look like she's this prissy goody goody when she's really a wild, manipulative psycho? Do she have the same kinda home life? Again, missed opportunity.
Finally, Hunter tossed away any sympathy I had once he started he online harassment (which, its weird he targeted Maya and not Goldi, but I guess Maya has a bigger online presence), especially with the doxxing and the swatting. Its also ridiculous that his friends went along with him. Like we don't know anything about Baaz, so I can't really say if this is the kinda thing he'd do, but no offense to Vijay, from what we've seen of him, he does not seem like the type to be doing this sort of thing. As for Yael, why would she ever go along with any of this? The things the feminist club had been saying, she has to know what that feels like.
But ugh, Hunter is all MRA by claiming what they were doing is correcting a social injustice. Like he started this whole thing because he was tired of being embarrassed in gym. And I get he's mad at the feminist club for taking away what he built, but there not the ones at fault for the underlying situation. He was feeling ostracized because he's not the manly man society claims is ideal, and I think that's one of the things feminism takes a stand against, that anyone who is not that is lesser, to the point that words like gay and girl are used as derogatory terms.
I will say that I disagree with some people saying he's not mentally ill, he's just a fuck boy. I mean, he's definitely a fuck boy. But his tirades make it clear he has some deep seated issues. As I've said before, between Miles' self destructive streaks, Frankie's perpetual unhappiness, and Hunter's outbursts, I wouldn't be surprised it there is a history of something in the Hollingsworth family.
I digress, like I said, he's still a fuckboy. I get he likes Yael, but he was pretty rough with her when he didn't get his way. And like I said, I had zero sympathy for him after the doxxing and swatting, but way to prove he's a whiny little bitch for putting her, Baaz and Vijay on his kill list. Not that he has a right to kill anyone else on that list either. Though its bullshit that Maya is at the top of his list and not Zig. At least Zig bullied him. What did Maya ever do, other than being the face of the feminist club. Which in a way is also kinda bullshit- Maya's not even the head of the club. Its like, Goldi started the club, but I guess because she's brown and wears a hijab, she's not a good enough head, so let's make it all about the pretty blond white girl?!
I do wonder if that means Miles isn't transferring out, because he feels the need to watch over Hunter. Which, he should've totally turned in Hunter's ass. I get that he's his brother, but Miles should know more than anyone that you can't just hide this shit and hope it gets better. He's living proof! At this point, its not a matter of if Hunter will hurt a bunch of people (well, he has already, I guess I mean actually kill someone), its when.
Other stuff, the Frankie/Jonah stuff makes no g-d sense. Also, I forgot they had Zig rough him up for not paying for drugs, its weird that didn't come into play when he was thinking Jonah was trying to get with Maya. But yeah, Jonah is an ass to her all judge-y and shit, and somehow Frankie is all in love with him now. There's nothing I've seen in their interactions that justifies why she likes him.
Also, way to be a fuck boy Winston, when Frankie breaks up with you and being all, "Good luck to the guy you're choosing over me, he's going to need it!"
Its interesting though, how everything did tie together, because if Miles didn't realize how self-destructive he'd become and sought help, and Winston didn't get dumped by Frankie, they wouldn't have found out about Hunter's kill list and suspected he was at school with a gun. People could've been killed!
