TV commentary:
Vampire Diaries- Hmm, I have a lot of theories. Not too much learned in the flashfowards- Damon goes to rescue Caroline before Stefan tries, because Damon knows its a trap. Alaric is with him, but since he's a mere human, Damon also keeps him away, telling him to stop Stefan from coming in. Heh, it was indeed a trap, because Caroline isn't even there. So all he does is end up getting pumped full of vervain darts.
In the past (actual past, like 1850s or so), Giuseppe burns Damon at dinner with a lit cigar for stealing money from him. He actually didn't, but only admitted it so he wouldn't go after Stefan. Not that Stefan took the money either- it was Lily, who wanted to use it to buy some train tickets for her and her boys to flee. But Giuseppe finds it, and threatens her saying she'll never take his boys away. And so, she stayed with him for years.
Of course, Damon still smarts from this- as far as he knows, Lily abandoned them to their fate, faking her own death and starting a new family. Which, he's not wrong- why didn't Lily just show up and snap her husband's neck and take her sons back once she became a vamp? I guess I forgot she was a ripper, and she did worry for her sons safety. I suppose that's why she sent Valerie and Oscar to look into her sons, just to see how they were. But I still think that's kinda bullshit.
So, when the boys capture their mother and try to convince her she's repeating past mistakes by telling her how Julian made Val miscarry, thinks get messy quick. Bonnie and Enzo find what Oscar hidden in his car- a special sword with an x-shaped blade. Presumably this is what killed "Florence". So, Enzo uses it when Julian challenges him to a duel. Too bad Julian and Lily linked their lives together. (Which doesn't seem too smart a plan, because its not like Lily was her son's favorite person to begin with, she had to expect they might not care).
So when Julian gets wounded, Lily gets hurt as well, alerting the boys to the situation. Damon goes to stop Enzo, but upon recognizing the sword, stabs Julian in the heart with it. Too bad the sword isn't special without the phoenix stone. And so he, and Lily are fine.
Lily is pretty sobered by the fact that her son didn't care he would've killed her. And she was kinda miffed at Julian for getting into a duel in the first place, knowing he could get hurt or die, which would kill her too. He plays it off as cocky self-assuredness. Lily asks him about Val, and he lies, and her abusive marriage helps her recognize the lies, and she knows her mistake- so she secretly meets with her sons to cook up a plan to take out Julian.
Getting back to the sword though- since immortals killed in it have their souls trapped in the stone, and they can be brought back with a spell, I'm sure one of the gang will get killed by it and resurrected. We know at the very least Stefan has been stabbed by it in the future, and the wielder is able to cause the wound to re-open.
Meanwhile, Matt tells Caroline about the human bloodbags, and they get Val to siphon the current compulsion away (so Caroline can re-compel them, heh). During this time, Caroline learns about Val's pregnancy and they bond. Caroline's pregnancy tests are negative, but Val is sure about the spell the Gemini used, because she tried using the spell herself to save her baby. Only she failed because she didn't have as much magic as a whole coven. Which, bullshit, I bet even though she thought she failed, she didn't, and her and Stefan's child did somehow live. Like you can totally see them pulling this "twist" off later.
Eventually, they figure out why the pregnancy tests and ultrasound showed nothing- because the Gemini cloaked the twins when they put it in Caroline. So Val siphons that magic away, revealing Alaric and Jo's kids.
Other stuff- Matt's kinda mad at Bonnie for hanging out with Enzo instead of helping him out with the compelled people. He apparently contacted Jeremy and Tyler off screen to figure out a way to handle the issue.
